I wish I would have found this forum a couple of weeks ago. I bought my 11 year old son a black and white dutch for his 11th birthday. He had always wanted a rabbit since he was very small. A couple of days after his birthday, the rabbit stopped eating and pooping. I took him to the vet.. long story, short - he was diagnosed with Coccidiosis and died a couple of days later. It was heart breaking!:cry1: The vet said he likely came with it from the pet store. We decided to purchase another rabbit, this time from a local breeder. Almost the exact same thing happened. I thought I had sterilized the hutch and everything he touched, but I guess not. The second rabbit died after a weekend of nursing and syringe feeding.:cry1: The breeder told us we could come get his brother. Before that we completely sterilized everything with ammonia and boiling water. There is no way there could be anything left. Would you believe the third rabbit stopped eating and pooping? :nerves1 But, there were other signs that led me to believe this was not Coccidiosis. I really think his gastro balance was off, so I started him on Bene-bac and limited his food to just Timothy Hay. Yesterday he started pooping again, but it was massive, soft amounts of poop. It really scared me. There was no mucus, though. It was so bad we had to give him a bunny butt bath. Well - this morning, he is dropping poop pellets again. They are not round, but they are getting there as the day progresses.ray:
It has been a very tough month, and I hope we're going to keep this one. By the way - his name is BB. His brother's name was Bono.. RIP - BB is short for Bono's Brother.
