hello, I'm new here and I'm looking forhelp...I have a rescue Dutch rabbit that I know nothingabout. I had her out last night and saw something white in the middleof the black in her eye. My Mom thought it might just be the TV or alight reflecting on her eye but tonight it was the same and I openedher eye up more a bit and it looked a bit blood shot. I was wonderingif there was anything I could do? Maybe eye drops for now? We think shemay have hurt it when playing in her litter... Any Ideas? Thanks

Allie.

Is her eye tearing, or is she holding it closedor blinking a lot? Any of those would show that something ishurting her eye.

What are you using for litter?

If it looks like her eye is bothering her, you may want to take her toa vet. I *think* you can flush the eye with regular contactsolution (saline) but I don't like to mess with the eyes as they aresensitive.

Oh, and welcome to the forum! There's not a whole lot ofpeople on at this time of night, but you may be able to find some infoby doing a search on the site. This is a really great placeto learn about rabbits and meet some pretty cool people.

Thank you.

It doesn't seem like it hurts her. She seems fine. She is hoppingaround and going nuts in her cage like always. She doesn't seem likeit's hurtting her. someone just told me she might have an Ulcer in hereye. I'm not sure if that's true but If so I don't have the money for avet visit. All my money has been going to my sick hedgehog and I reallydunno what i'm gonna do if this is true. She is a very sweet loveablebunny and I'd hate to have to give her up but if Ihave to inorder to save her from suffering I will.If there is anyonewho lives in the New orleans area of Louisiana please email me if youown a bunny and don't mind taking on another. This might be her onlyhope. :(

Do you have a digital camera? Maybeyou could take a picture and show us the problem. If not, maybe you could just take a close look and describe it in detail.

Don't worry about giving up your rabbit yet. Unless the otherperson you were talking to is very experienced with rabbits, he or shecould very well be wrong. Just as I could be wrong.I'm not an expert. You can also talk to your vet about apayment plan if you can't afford care. He or she might alsoknock some of the price off if you offer to help clean cages andsuch. It never hurts to ask.

Yes I have a cam but it's not a very good camand it won't always come on. I got it on anyway and took pictures butthey aren't really good. I'm not sure how to take the pictures. She isrelly good not moving about when I'm taking a picture but the litghtingin this room doesn't really help.
This is the best I can do for now I will have to try some other way.

Here's a little bit better picture....

The RED is pointing to the light.

The Yellow is pointing to the thing that is in her eye. You can't really see it but that's the best I can get it.

I use triple antibiotic oinment, neosporin ,forminor irritations,if it doesnt work in three days they need to see avet.bluebird

Cataract???

I thought about it being a cataract but i'm not sure. I'll try the T.A.O. I don't think it will hurt to try. thanks!

Because eye disease can progress so rapidly and result in possible loss of the eye, I'd have it checked by a vet.
