Last night, I found a baby possum in Arthur's cage, and it was infested with deer ticks, and what I think are fur mites. Now I'm worried Arthur will have picked them up, so I want to treat him for them. From what I was reading about the Worm-Out that RMC sells, it would take care of ticks too-I think. What I was wondering is, has anyone on here used this stuff, or even other products from Rabbit Medicine Chest? I don't want to order this expensive stuff unless I have a pretty good idea of whether or not it will work.:grumpy:

I think Ivermectin will treat ticks. Also, many kitten flea powders also treat ticks. I would trust either of those over PMC. My main issue with them is they don't usually list ingredients on the website. You have to buy their products to know what's in them, which is fishy. Especially since some herbal medicines given for animals have been found to contain unhealthy or even poisonous ingrediants. I'd trust standard treatments over herbal treatments most days unless I researched all of the ingredients.

I have purchased products from them before and although they did

no harm I didn't see anything good that they did either.

There is alot of controversy about the RMC. It seems that they are

not allowed to sell products in their home state and are being investigated

by others from what I have heard.

Oh, holy COW. Forget that, then. Naturstee, about the Ivermectin, is that the stuff that is also used in cattle? Would I be able to use something like Frontline instead? I think I have some of that on hand for my cats. I have never heard if that is safe for rabbits or not. I have some Neo-Dust for mites, too, I had forgotten about that, have you guys ever used that?

Yup, Ivermectin like for cattle. It's a common rabbit dewormer. I'm not sure what dosage to give because I would just get it from a vet personally. Many breeders dose it themselves though. Pamnock would probably know how much to give.

Frontline is very very very bad for rabbits. Very bad. Advantage and Revolution are ok but I think you have to use the kitten dosage, not sure. What is the active ingredient in Neo-Dust?

Yeah, the problem with that is that there are different concentrations of that stuff, and what you would use for a rabbit is incredibly eensy weensy and I have had a hard time finding it in the right concentration. I think I put that right, LOL. I hope it made sense!

wow! lawsuits! oh my and i was going to order before the site closed. i was planning on getting the thing to boost the immune system. well so much for that plan. i will just stay with what my vet tells me.

Sorry - I missed that when Iread the posts ;)

I give 1/10 of a cc orally (of the cattle injectable) per every 5 lbs.

A small smear of the oral paste for horses.

In rare cases, a few rabbits have had serious neurological reactions to Ivermectin.

Ivermectin is not effective against fleas, ticks,or flies in the adult life stage.

Ok, here are the ingrediants of the Neo-Dust. It's all greek to me, but mabye ya'll can make some sense out of it, LOL.
Gamma Isomer of Benzen Hexachloride from Lindane 1%
That's it, that's all it says. I have used it on one of my Flemish does before, and she didn't seem to have any problems, and the symtoms she was having cleared up, so I assumed the powder did it.

I'd toss it.

Lindane has been banned in many countries.

A laboratory study found that a single topical application of 1% lindaneon weanling rabbits caused convulsions. Adult rabbits are less likely to have neurotoxic reactions, although skin irritation is not uncommon.

Lindane use in the US isrestricted and products in the US are required by lawto have a warning on the packaging. Caution should be used in handling because Lindane is listed as a probable carcinogenas well as aneurotoxin. If the packaging on the neo-dust you have does not includeclear warnings, it is in violation of US federallaw.

"Organochlorines are seldom seen on today's labels, but are included here for completeness. The best known of the organochlorines is Lindane. Because of its side effects, Lindane is seldom used in over the counter products and would NOT be our choice for safe flea and tick control."
