.....so last night was the first night my twoformer house bunnies spent in their new hutch outside. :tears2:I feellikeI made my own kids sleep outside!
Maybe I should back up alittle........ my first rabbit was a rabbitthat I got for my stepdaughter. She was being offered by someone whojust didn't have time for her. She was kept in a cage in the basementwith little human contact. So we brought her home. We first kept her inher cage and then after awhile let her out to roam the upstairs (wehave dogs downstairs). She warmed up to us and became a veryaffectionate (though sometimes very b**chy) bunny.
Next came an offer for a free bunny and I thought it wouldbea nice companion for our "Sugar". It was a female and wasalso in need of a new home. It had been attacked by their dog andthough it was not hurt it was having to be kept in a cage on top of thefridge. So anyways we brought her home to meet Sugar. We introduced thetwo hoping that they would make friends. Well they werefriendly....alittle too friendly! Only to find out that the she was ahe. So we got him fixed and then brought him home a new "man" and hopedagain that they would be friends. Well needless to say he went afterher again and had his way with Sugar just out of arms reach under mybed. I didn't know that they could still be poitent for up to 6 weeksso he stayed in his cage right next to Sugars and I would alternateletting them out. I have been keeping an eye on Sugar but I don't thinkshe is going to have kits. One more week and it would have been 30days. She is a Polish and really thin and has no sign of a baby belly.
Just last weekend came another offer for a free bunny from someone elsewho just didn't have time for her. I brought her home hoping that sheand Sugar would get along. Sugar was very aggressive towards her whichI now know isprominate in her breed. Soluckely"Molly" is so docile she actually getts along withboth of my dogs. I think it is because she doesn't run when she seesthem like the other ones and she lets them lick and nuzzle her.
So that is a kinda all over the place introduction to how I came tohave bunnies. I have learned so much and hope to learn more and share. Here is a picture of Sugar and Pipkin and my avatar is of Molly.
