Well, this might need to go to another forum but since it's about giving medicines I thought I'd start it here. First, I'd love to make a serious post to have on how to attempt to get the medicines in them.... and then let's make our own versions! ;)

Here's the simethicone administration attempts today:

1st attempt: Try to have the bunny eat it on his own - Tell him how YUMMY it is! call it a craisen!

2nd attempt: Hold the bunny and love him so he's comfy. get the medicine out and slowly bring the dropper near his face as you reach to open his little jaws and see the bunny slide backwards like a banana out of its peel..... off your lap as you squeeze the little tube and get simethicone all over yourself.

3rd attempt: Seek help. Not mental - actually get another person to assist you. Burrito your bunny and hold him while the other person uses her hand to open his little mouth and squeeze the medicine...... just as he jerks and pushes the tube towards you and you get simethicone on your face.

4th attempt: a better burrito and get a bit of medicine on his face, in his nose, and just a drop in his mouth. OK! we got medicine in him! One drop should do the job, right? :highfive:

Relax and send assitant to bed while you begin thinking how the bunny should probably have more than a drop.

5th attempt: Love on bunny again and try to give it to him thinking maybe he liked the taste from before..... he didn't. Simethicone smells ok but not for a perfume and I wonder if it's stains clothing?

6th attempt: Put bunny in his cage and squeeze simethicone on his paw and leg so he has to lick it off! Go take a shower.

i find it helpful to put the dropper thingie in its mouth by the side. there is a nifty lil space between the side and front teeth that you can put it in. after you get some in your bun will start to lick it up and once ya get a steady thing goin,it is done quite fast. my buns HATE taking meds, although their first type made them sick....

Lol, I just grab them, open up the separated top lip, and shove the syring/dropper in the diastema and get it in that way. They don't like getting their heads grabbed....but it gets medicine in!

I was planning to make a 'picture guide' of howto syringe medswith Ruby as I have become so used to administrating meds the past couple of months, however I never got round to it and now it's too late.:cry4::tears2:

However; here is my 'step by step guide'

You will need - one other person, one chair, one surface on which to place the bunny (a table will do fine) one fairly large towel, meds all ready measured out in syringes and ready to go, and a well lit area.

1) Lay towel on table top (I preferred folding it in half for extra thickness) and place meds nearby.

2) Get bunny, place him or her in the middle of the towel, an inch or two from the top (to act as a bib), fold over one side over the bunmaking it snug yet not too tight, then fold over the other doing the same.

3) Get your helper tosit down and place your bun on their lap with the overhang on the towel at the back tucked underneath bun to act as extra padding in case bun kicks out or needs a wee (stops it soaking through onto your helpers lap!).;)Get your helper to place hands on bunny's shoulders (and/or back) to secure bun in place.

4) I preferred using small 1ml syringes as I feel there is less chance of bun choking, insert end of syringe into the side of the bunny's mouth and slowly administer meds (although Ruby loved taking her Septrin at the front of her mouth and would happily open her teeth to let me do so). I'd also advise giving your bun breaks to allow himto her to swallow meds before administering the rest.

5) Take bun back to hutch/cage/condo/run/play area etc, lay the burrito-ed bun on floor and loosen the towels, allow bun to hop freely from the towel and give you filthy looks for the next 5 minutes.:D
