It's great to see you here, Randy. Thanks forall you've done for Usagi. I'm so happy to hear that he'sbetter. I knew that Usagi was in real trouble and I don'tthink he would have made it without your care.

To the others who read this, I've been checking in each evening withRandy by giving him a call and asking about Usagi. He'schatted and told me in detail how Usagi is doing and what treatments hehas been giving. I met Holly, his wife, when she came forUsagi but I haven't met Randy in person yet. I'm very hopefulnow and anxious to be reunited with Usagi but I'm just as anxious tomeet Randy in person.

When I went to the Emergengy Clinic on Sunday morning I took poopsamples but the vet hardly looked at them. Some weredifferent. They resembled a string of pearls.Monday I put one in water and dissolved out the plant matter. What was left was a white strand that I realizedwas a fiber from a carpet. I had put apiece of synthetic carpet in Usagi's cage for him to lay on.I didn't realize that he was ingesting it. :(

I scoot him into his cage at night with, "Go Home."He's a smart bunny and picked up the meaning of that veryquickly. When I wake I open his door. He comes andgoes as he likes into a room that I've carefullybunny-proofed. So at night he's in the cage andable to get into any mischief that I had missed, like eating carpet.

Usagi's sickness was likely caused by the carpet; it was my fault. Thelesson is learned and I will be very careful about what is in his cage.

I haven't heard from Thumper's human yet but I know she's having apersonal crisis. Randy tells me that Usagi is getting along great withhis other bunnies so I suspect he'll love to have a girl-friend when hegets back. I'd guess that I'll probably have Thumper before Usagi getsback. Thumper is also black but she has a bit of white on herforehead.

Randy this is very nice of you to come here and let us know. Very sweet. I am glad this little one is such a fighter.

Thanks for the update, Randy! I'm so glad Usagi is doing better!

Usagi_chan, don't beat yourself up too much about the carpet. Many bunny-savvy people have carpet in their cages and their rabbitsdon't touch it. I've seen a lot of recommendations for usingcarpet in cages- apparently from people whose rabbits are perfectangels. Mine shred the carpet in the living room when I turnmy back.:rollseyes

It's a lesson learned, but it's too bad it had to be learned in such a hard way.

For all who are following Usagi's story...I ampleased to report that he is doing great. The gut is becomingmore established every day and I have seen him eating cecals. He is receiving nosupporting treatment at all....he is on ournormal protocols. At this point, the issues that will beaddressed in the future are some weight gain and keeping an eye onthose molars. He is not a big hay eater and hay is theprimary way to keep the molars worn down. We are working onthat one now. Last weekend, I didn't have much hopefor him....but he never gave up and fought hard to live. It'salso amazing how quickly they bounce back from a criticalsituation. This is a prime example of never givingup....and Usagi didn't because he knows he has a lot to livefor.Unless we get an unexpected downturn over the nextweek....Usagi will go home where he belongs next weekend.

Usagi is back home and frisky as ever ! I'm sohappy. It wasn't quite 2 weeks and it seemed like alifetime. Thank you to everyone for your concern and support.

I also met Randy in person and his wife Holly again. They are really wonderful people.

Thumper is fine now and the bunnies have seen each other. I'll let themsee each other but keep cage bars between them until Thumper is healedfrom her spay. Randy advised about 2 weeks.
