New Member warnings and Old Member refreshers...
It is your long silent leader here. I trust everyone had a great
Christmas and a safe and Happy New Years.
A few complaints have come to my attention as well as an influx of new
people, that may possibly be under a bit of a misconception as to what
this group is about.
Apparently the Beaumont Enterprise ran an article about Freecycle.
They did not elaborate much on what exactly we are about. In the past
week we have had no less than 100 new people join up, possibly more.
That is more than join in the course of 6 months, even a year
sometimes. I have denied approval on even more just for the simple
fact their approval comment was *Looking for new laptop donation*
*looking for new furniture donation lost to Rita* That's not what we
are about. We are about keeping stuff out of the landfill. Another
man's trash is another man's treasure. This isn't FreeloaderCycle, or
FreeCharityCycle. If you think it is, and your here looking for a
handout, and you think we owe you something, kindly leave. I have also
rejected posts from people not only asking for incredibly LARGE items
like vehicles,(or sheds) but also insisting on condition,(like 2005 or
newer but also color preference) Aside from that's nervy, beggar's
can't be chooser's. Not to mention this isn't the place for this. I
have also had people posting for brand new items such as appliances
and electronic equipment. Again, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE!!! The whole
title of the group is a play on the word Recycle...NEW ITEMS ARE NOT
RECYCLES!!
If your looking for a handout, your Gravy Train
with Bisquit Wheels has now left Freeloader Station,
never to return!!
Also, alot of you did not read the rules,so let me re-iterate in bold
face type. ONE WANT PER WEEK, ONE WANT PER 30 DAYS OF THE SAME OR LIKE
ITEM!! I am tired of telling you people this, I am not your
babysitter, and I have taken to banning the people that I see just
blatantly disregarding the rules. It is unfair to the people who can
read and abide by the rules. Rules are there for a reason. Obviously
you people have some level of reading skills, your using a computer.
Now, onto some recent complaints.
If you email someone about an item, and you receive no response,
perhaps one more email is OK, but 4, or 5 or 10 is uncalled for. There
are laws against it, it's called stalking. Especially if the person
has already posted the item has been spoken for or picked up. If you
don't receive a reply, assume you have not been selected. Leave it
alone, walk away, don't act crazy and go off on people. Don't
embarrass yourself.
Time is precious, people juggle things to make arrangements for you to
pick up an item. Show up in a timely fashion, or call ahead of time
why you can't. Recently I offered some Patchouli Oil. I offered to
meet the person in Beaumont at 7 to save them gas for such a small
item. They called me at 11 to tell me they couldn't find me, and went
off on me. You call me at 11? And go off on me? Alrighty then.We won't
even mention what a rude time 11pm is to call someone. Guess what-they
got banned.. rudeness is an automatic banishment. I will not subject
my group members to possibly unstable people.
Another thing that just came up last night, a member I personally know
offered an item, awarded it to another member, sent her the *Your a
winner* email with her contact info. Guess what? That Moron called her
at 12:30 at night....AT MIDNIGHT!!! Think people!! Common sense
dictates!! People have jobs, people have children, holidays or not..
there may be elderly or infirm people in someones household.CALL WHEN
YOUR ASKED OR TOLD TO-NOT WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE IT!!
Now, with all that being said.. if you can abide by the rules, stay,
if you can't leave,I try to run this place with a sense of humor, but
apparently things are getting out of hand...

Addendum to the previous warning and refresher post.
Do you know what the most over used word on Freecycle is?
DESPERATELY!!!
Or any form or variation of it.
Webster's defines it as:
Desperately:Adverb
1. In a desperate manner; without regard to danger or safety; recklessly.
I seriously doubt that the things that I see asked for in conjunction
with the word "Desperately" or "In desperate need of" would actually
cause you to do things "without regard to danger or safety"
If your in that DESPERATE need of an item, by all means, please do NOT
disregard our safety or yours, and put ANY of us in danger for said
item. GO BUY IT!
In other words... stop exaggerating people, or at least find a more
appropriate word to describe how much you would love to have a item.
Or I will get all reckless with my finger and start banning people.
