Like the subtopic says, this will be a long photo-heavy post, so dial-up be warned!
In preparation for everyone coming to my house on the 4th of July before we went out to dinner, I cleaned up the house. Getting the house clean is one of my goals this summer anyway. This was just a good incentive. We worked hard on the kitchen, bathroom, living room and dining room. My son's room isn't too bad, my room and my daughter's room are still in need of cleaning.
In addition to the benefit of not having my dad, mom, sister and brother-in-law rolling their eyes at me for not having a clean house (in fact, each of them actually gave me a compliment on the house), I figured it meant I could expand the area Poe gets to play in. We tried to bunny-proof as we cleaned.
Poe tentatively coming out to see his new area.
The first thing he explored was his own toys, now stored under the table where his cage normally sits.
This photo reminded me of the little dog next to the phonograph. The speakers are now turned toward the wall, because Poe did give them a nibble.
Hindered not a bit by the hard wood floors, Poe skittered over to the room he is used to playing in.
I love the bunny exploration, when they leave their back feet and carefully step forward to figure things out.
First time under the table (now a favorite place to flop)
checking out the couch
Considering a leap (note that the pen now serves to block off all of the cords and electrical equipment on that side of the room)
Poe started enjoying leaping into the fireplace, so we had to bunny-proof the area. We have since changed this area again, making it difficult for him to leap on the tables, as well.
He still managed to get in a few times yesterday...which is why we pushed the two tables up against the grate and moved the bins out and stacked on each other, so he can't hop on them. The vaccuum has moved to the other side of the room, and his cage isn't next to the tables when we take it down, either. No more bunny in the fireplace or on the tables.
My house was built in 1911, so it still has this old outlet in the floor that used to be used for a light in the middle of the table. It's not a live outlet any more. Poe looks in it occasionally and I caught a shot of him acting goofy.
Binkies ensued when he realized it wasn't a mistake that he was out!
And the good little man ran right back to his cage to pee (although there are a couple more poopies about than usual...probably letting us know he OWNS the rest of his area now)
Part of the new bunny-proofing, is a gate under my desk, blocking the computer cords.
And a gate Allllllllllll the way around daddy's desk, not only to block Poe from the cords, but also to block Kirby from cowering away from Poe, under the desk.
Kirby and Poe do get along better than Kirby and Elf did, though. Kirby isn't as terrified of him and is mildly curious, instead.
Poe likes hopping on Kirby's cushion. Major jump straight up in the air and land facing in the other direction binkies go on here.
and everyone demands love from the boy
after exploring for a while, we put some toys out, as well
Kirby was interested in Poe AND the toys
the kids were enjoying some pineapple, so Poe had to come up and have a lick and a nibble
I didn't grab the camera fast enough to catch the flop on the couch, but I got this look instead.
Then Poe climbed over to see his boy
and nudge him
and when that didn't work and no pets were forthcoming
he climbed on him instead
another Poe look
Poe will now flop right next to or against Kirby
If Kirby is in the center of the mats, Poe will circle him...around and around and around.
bunny flop
giving the table a couple licks (he could chew the heck out of this and it wouldn't bother me...it has been chewed on by every puppy in my household since I was 11 years old.
and....a final Kirby look. My squishy mug boy.
Sorry it was so long! We're excited about his increased freedom Now I'm off to fold laundry and watch my pets enjoy their time together.
