Well, I've been on the hunt for a husband forBasil. I searched breeder sites to no avail, but then foundone right under my nose. A customer of minehadrecommended that her friend call me a few weeks back when she washaving problems with her mini rex doe rejecting her kits (it was thefirst litter for both). I told her what I knew andrecommended she talk to the 2 vets I use. I hadn't heardanything else and had basically put it in the back of my mind becauseI've had a bunch of other things going on.

When I got home from my week at my brother's on Saturday, I checked inat work. My assistant manager gave me a message that thebreeder had called. I called her back and she said thatthings had gone really well. She had hand fed them and takenthem to my vet and they were given a clean bill of health. She asked if I wanted one. I told her I was currently lookingfor a buck, but I wanted a specific color. She said she wasso grateful that she wanted to give me one as a thank you, so maybe Ishould just come and look. I knew I shouldn't go, because Iwould fall in love and take one even if it wasn't the correct color.

I went over today and fell in love with a little buck. Heisn't necessarily what I wanted, but he will work...I think. He is a broken orange and white and she is a tri. I'm not tooconcerned about coloring right now because I have several people whowant a kit and aren't interested in showing. They just loveBasil. My niece wants to show and I'm going to let her showBasil and she'll take a kit if any are correctly colored.

Anyway, he is just a tiny sweetie. She isn't going to sellthe others yet, but they haven't been with mom since they were just acouple of days old because she refused to nurse and would kick them outof the nest, so she let me take him tonight...it was a 3 hour drive andI don't want to repeat that any time soon. He is eatingreally nicely and has already settled in. I'll post picturestomorrow, after I take some.

He is a ridiculous little pig. He atethe entire car ride home. It was crazy. I filled arather large bowl (for his size) and it is empty. When hegets bigger, he'll have to go on a bunny diet if I'm not careful!

Ok, so I had to make the trip anyway, well, 2.5 hrs of it. I had totake my brother's dogs back to him and pick his girlfriend and her kidsand him from the airport (they were in Flordia for 1 of the girls'cheerleading competation). I then went to see the breeder.

He has a name now: Saphron, Saphy for short. He is a happy little guy, doing binkies (even when I just had him at my brother's). He is goingto move into Orion's cage tomorrow because Orion is moving up in theworld to a larger cage because he just keeps getting bigger and bigger(I'm really thinking that the guy I got him from didn't know what kindhe was at all).

I am so glad he settled in so quick.Apollo was the same way and it just made things so much less tense andeasier.

I love the name. It's very original. I am so excited for you.

Oh, things are so crazy here. Thelittle guy got to meet the others last night. Everyonebasically ignored him. Daisy did her typical, "I won't bebothered by anyone buy Sage" and thumped at him, which sent him flyingacross the room. Elvis and Sage got to greet him through thecage (they are both sexually mature bucks, so I don't trust them, although Sage busted out of his cage when Elvis was out and they had agreat time) they both just ignored him. Orion found abuddy! They played and played, I don't know how long thatwill last, both are still young, but maybe they will bond now...I doubtit though. Basil was even more motherly with Saphy then shewas with Orion. She actually tried to pick him up and carryhim off to her cage. I was cracking up, but I put a stop toit. She was chinning and chinning on him. She stillloves Orion too, she chins him also. They seem to make a goodtrio, for now. They are all mini rex (Orion is a mix), soI've decided they know they have beautiful fur and are going to besnobby about it.

I'll post pictures as soon as I get batteries for my camera.
