I read that Chrons Disease IS more common in relatives of people with IBS or Chrons, but they still do not know if there is a hereditary link for sure. People with a mutation of the gene NOD2 are more likely to be prone to Chrons, so this aspect may be hereditary.

An ulcer is possible. If it was an ulcer, I would think it would hurt/burn all the time when you ate, not just when you eat chicken :p. But again, I'm no doc ;) and I think keeping a diary of what your doing, eating, etc when you feel that pain is a good idea so your doc will have more precise info and also how your "movements" are doing (your doc will want to know this). Chron's Disease is a form of ulceration in your gut due to your immune system attacking itself from the disease and causing inflammation and ulcer like formations in the lower gut and below. So it would be important to mention to your doc that your mom has Chrons if he doesn't know this already.

I forget you get free healthcare over there!

Yes, I do remember my mum telling me that it is in part hereditary....

That is also an excellent idea! I shall definately try and do that- I'm terrible at remembering things like that but I'll give it a try. It's very distinguishable when I do get it- like bad stomach cramps (but definately in my stomach) and I get all shivery and sweaty. Then obviously, diarreah (cannot spell that word lol!).... :?

My doctor definately knows about my mum, because he treats her too lol! And he is really nice, and doesn't make me feel like I'm time-wasting at all, it's just me lol. I just get scared of making a fuss- because at one time I seemed to pretty much live at the doctors! I've tried to stay away since lol, but I guess it's time to go back!

I thought that about the ulcer as well- surely I'd be getting these symptoms all the time?

I gained a good few intolerances over the past couple of years.

I wonder if maybe you have IBS or something bought on by the stress of your illness, and the food has become the trigger?
That.... sounds like a very plausible explanation! Stress can cause stuff like that right? Or at least cause it to get worse? I certainly couldn't deny that this year has been stressful- illness and all...

Thank you! :D

Yep, definitely see a dr and get some testing done. For me, I have IBS, and it came on gradually over the years...although in thinking back I've probably had it most of my life to some degree. (I remember as a teen going to McDonald's and being the only one to feel sick every time we ate there.) Other foods that I could eat all the time when I was younger now may trigger a minor 'attack'. Eggs, pasta, beef, pizza, will all leave me feeling 'sickish' and I may or may not get pains (and other assorted gastro problems). Coffee too, as much as I love it, will sometimes leave my stomach feeling wonky. And for me, stress is also a huge trigger, esp. if it is a huge stress.

Go for testing to rule out an ulcer and, if possible, see a gastroentrologist. They should be able to get to the bottom of it all for you and help sort out what's been causing your reaction. And if it does turn out to be something like IBS, learning to release stress instead of suppressing it (if you tend to do that, as I do) can also go a long way to helping get rid of symptoms.

Yes, if it was an ulcer you would get those symptoms as well.

Dear, more and more people have digestive problems now and they are serious. We don't live in a world where the pink stuff will fix us up anymore.

Here in Texas where I live, most of our food is now imported. And of course, nobody checks the food to make sure it's safe to eat. Even the chicken that is processed here is filthy. We sat and watched those chicken trucks come and go in Dallas, and even went to the plant. There is no way that nasty disease pit could have passed an inspection, no way. A horrible green stinky slime even covered the parking lot! Not only were dead chickens brought to that plant along with the live ones, even the egg producing plant on the other side of town can't even process an egg without it stinking. Dare to compare a home laid egg to a store bought egg. The store bought eggs stink and they make us stink like giant badly processed eggs.

Please see a doctor to find out what is wrong with your tummy. It's not all in your head. Something is wrong. I promise you there is treatment -- good treatments -- for all the tummy issues, and you will feel so much better when you get treatment. If they have to scope, don't panic and don't run off. Nobody likes the scope, but it saves lives. If it's a real problem have the doc give you a mild sedative. No, it doesn't hurt but it certainly does trigger the "fight or flight" in everyone.

Make sure and wash all your food before you cook it, and don't eat raw foods. Because of my stomach problems, I am also trying to grow as much of our food now as possible. I'm sick of worrying and wondering if some farm worker pooped in our spinach, or washed the okra with sewage. On top of that, they are messing with the DNA of our food -- both animal and plant. Try to eat only the heritage foods.

Take care Dear, and keep me posted on how you are feeling.

Just a little update.... I've been terrible at keeping the food diary, but since I've steered completely clear of chicken and any chicken products since last Friday, I have not had one episode of...... erm.... 'dodgy bowel symptoms'! No stomach pains, nothing!

Strange :?

I have to go back to the doctor in a couple of weeks anyway to get a repeat prescription I think so I'll make an appointment then. My doctor is honestly lovely, and always really sympathetic (rare for a doctor these days I find!) but it doesn't stop me feeling bad about going. I will go though....

BethinIrving... you are so right! It definately does trigger the 'fight or flight' in me lol!!! I know that my mum has had some pretty unpleasant experiences with that and there is just no way I want to have anything like that done whilst I'm 'aware' of it.... I want to be knocked well and truly out lol!

The other thing is, that aside from when I was out, or ordering a takeaway etc, I was always so fussy about picking free-range, organic chicken. Steve would moan about the price and I'd just say 'ok, I wont eat chicken this week then'.....

We went out tonight for dinner and I sooo wanted to order chicken cos it's really good there but I couldn't! First time it's actually been an inconvenience! :p
