Here's a question that okiron actually just mentioned to me. I was going to PM you, BlueGiants...but thought it would do more help for others if it were here in this thread:

What kind of hay is recommended for Flemmies? Will I have to give Teeny a mixture of Timothy and alfalfa?

Sam got a mixture of Timothy and orchard grass. She HATED alfalfa. She would get mad if it was given to her.

All my rabbits get Timothy hay Daily. Most are on an alfalfa pellet, but they get Timothy hay. (And it's funny, most of them hate the orchard grass!)

Okay, cool...so alfalfa hay isn't needed? Even for a two month old bun?

Depends what he is getting there.

:yeahthat:
Agreed... ask the breeder for a hunk of hay to wean him over to what you use. Mix it just like the food... I don't even buy alfalfa hay...

My kits get timothy hay from day one!

Ok, cool...thank you so much!! :D:D:D

I can not wait!!!

jsut my 2 cents... where the flemish are the lerger boned of the the buns, i think i tis important to make sure they have enough calcium, so i do timothy daily, orchard as a treat cause she loves it soooooo much, with all the clovers etc... and then alfalfa once a week, if there pee has any white in it then there is too much calcium and you should not do alfalfa.

i didnt have the luxery of getting my girl from a breader that knew what she was doing like bluegiants!

she came froma farm, and who knows what she got as a kit.

so she get the best of the best as an adult.. alll the time..

 Could not agree with you more Jupiterannette! (And thanks for the kind words....)

So, given that I know his diet right now (she admitted to me that she doesn't give them much hay), I'm okay giving him straight Timothy hay? Or should I mix in a little alfalfa? (I's confused...)

I wouldn't hesitate to give him the Timothy Hay when he gets home. I can't see that it would do any harm at all... especially since he hasn't had any...

I personally don't give greens (or treats except a few oats) until they are a little older (16 weeks), because they grow SO fast the first 4 months. I worry so much about them getting enough calcium and protein at the onset. Then I intrduce the vege's one at a time.

OKay, gotcha. :thumbup

Sorry if I'm being repetitive...I just wanna be SURE I've got ALL the bases covered by the time Teeny comes home...which is only a couple weeks away, hehe! 18 days! :D

Not that your counting or anything.... :whistling

Actually, that's quite true! I didn't realize until I read your post about it, that there were 18 days left! Oh! And I have only 16 until the boys come home from Peg's!! WEEEEEEE!!!!!

A question I just thought of...my cats are on Revolution and so are my buns. Would the flemmies have to be a certain age before they can start using it or is it fine as long as they have enough weight/size?

I've never heard of a problem with Revolution. But with Flemish I'd be more concerned with age than weight. (They can have a higher weight at 8 weeks of age than some rabbits have at a year.)

I've never had to treat my rabbits before 16 weeks of age. I think I'd just make sure I had an accurate weight on each bunny before treatment. :)

Ok :) It's more of a procaution anyway than an actual flea infestation around here. I wont push putting harsh chemicals on them unless I have to.
