Are they super active like tans? They seem built for it. They're all Belgian-Harey with their body shape. Very neat!

lol they are. My rocky is probably a deviation because he loves to be petted and toted around. Most brits especially does in the hormonal teen age have an attitude. Rockys daughter that was in that age started attacking when we went into her cage but once you picked her up she was fine. Not all of them are like that though.

Not wanting to add to the confusion especially since I have much respect for the farmers as well as pet owners (im a pet owner) but I have seen this argument twice in the short 2 weeks I have been a member and would appreciate if everyone can get on the same page. Do the mods condone farmer members or not? It seems we are divided here. Maybe for future issues a special area for posts or something? I myself have no issues knowing that V (David) is looking into rabbits for meat Mainly because I was raised in an area where it was a NEED. However I would like someone to clear this up and let us know what you expect from us. Thanks in advance and GL again to david.

Brits DO have a reputation for being high strung and very active. I've seen more than one judge use a towel to cover a Brit so they could take them out onto the judging table without being bit, and more than one has gotten away from a judge because they are very quick.

And as I understand it, this isn't just a pet forum. I looked through previous threads and noted that several mods have said this. I can point you to the posts if needed. Maybe all the mods should talk and be on the same page about that...just to clear up some of the confusion.

Woah! I leave to build a hutch and come back to so many replies! lol

I knew it was going to be sensitive saying what my goals were, but I wanted to be honest about it all. The reason I mentioned the chickens is because the rabbits will more than likely end up the same. My main group of breeders when I do get going are going to be spoiled and glorified pets. I'll raise some.. sell some.. process just a few since I'm just feeding myself.. So really my intentions are to exist in both the pet and food source worlds. I know that may sound odd to some, but to me it's the most normal thing I know.

And I was leaning toward BP myself. I just haven't seen that slim serpentine shape about them. That was the only thing keeping me from being certain. Well, and they haven't really proven to be high strung at all. Very friendly, already come to me, like to be petted and will groom all day long in front of me. They were a little put off today due to hutch construction but calmed right back down once I got them in their new home. I only got a few scratches in the process, but that's probably more me than them and being inexperienced.

I realize they're not the most optimal breed for farming. I'll probably switch to one that is sometime down the road once I get a better handle on what I'm doing and get geared up.

Thanks everyone for the very warm welcome! :)

Please do not start out by laughing at the 99.9% of the forum members who have pet rabbits; sometimes with harnesses & leashes, usually always with carriers, spaying, neutering, etc.
Oh I have nothing but respect for those who do. I was just stating where I personally fit into the rabbit world.

Maybe they are a mix of BP. Or you got lucky and got calm ones haha.

Anyway and welcome.

I was going to make a lame chicken crossing the road joke but couldn't think of one and now it just sounds stupid haha.

Lol at the almost joke :p

Well if they are handled often and are used to people they can be good pets. Only our does have ever given us problems but when we sent one to a friend for alternative purposes because she had bit my mother the lady ended up keeping her and says she is the sweetest thing ever. Maybe it was just us lol. All of our boys have been sweet hearts tho. I know what you mean about The slim shape. My rocky is fine boned but has a body to him now that he is older and some does are usually larger framed than the males. But when they pose is when they show off those skinny bodies

Well, I may have jinxed myself.. I went out to give them treats this morning in their new home and got thumped at.. The little guy seems a bit stressed now for some reason. Why it would happen now instead of after sitting all day paired in a 10"x10" cage, then shoved into a vodka cardboard box, then an hour ride back home, is beyond me. So maybe just a BP calmed by PTS.. :p

My chicken crosses the road a lot! Then again, they just redug the ditch on the other side so there's a lot of dirt (read mud) to play in. So next time someone says that to you, calmly and without blinking tell them "well, the grass across the road must have just been cut.. which would draw any chicken to cross a road..." then in a very frightened and low voice lean in close and say "the bugs mostly come out after a cut... mostly..." :biggrin2:

Yes, these to have been raised in the condition I know they were, are more friendly than I would have imagined. A little love and food bribery and I think it'll all be good. My fiance has a m/n lionshead and OMG I feel so sorry for her. I just want to apologize to her for her being stuck with the two moodiest guys on the planet. lolol He keeps his back turned toward her for a week after she cleans his cage, stomps, and pitches the biggest tantrum. lolol

If they are BP, then they are full grown which means I have 30 days or so to make arrangements... Though there was nothing I could do anyway. This pair was together when we got them so chances are the damage was already done. *sigh*
Just once I'd like to do things the easy way. lol

Oh my god I think I love you

My lionhead, Molly, is moody too, but can be bribed readily with raisins. :D

If you figure out how to get things to go the easy way, please share because things around my world tend to lean towards Murphy's Law any chance they get.
