Fighting Male and Female Rabbits

My male and female rabbits.....Bugs and Lola......have mated a few times but Lola keeps running away from Bugs now. She squeals every time he goes close to her. He mounts her n starts mating and then she suddenly gets up making him fall. She has started biting him as well and pulling his fur. Bugs is going to get neutered in the first week of July. It is difficult for me to keep them in separate rooms. Till he is neutered...what can I do to stop them from fighting???? Please help.

All you can do is Keep them separate till after he is neutered and for at least a month after that for his hormones to die down. And if they fought to much you will have a very rough road to bond them, bunnies tend to remember these things.

He yet wants to keep going close to her. They have been used to the cage and litter box lying in my room. I kept the cage in another room with Bugs. But he keeps going to the door of my room and waiting there...waiting to get in.

Same I have 2 unneutered males Blueberry is 3 1/2 mnths. and Chesters 6 mnths. Chester is unneutered so he mates with Blueberry but blueberry just hops away I say it happens 3 times. They haven't fought..but thats because his hormones aren't happening yet...So I'm trying to find a rabbit savvy vet I've only found 1 & its 400$ each ): still looking

You need to separate them, it's the only way to prevent them from fighting. Is bugs spayed? If they had been mating before and now she's refusing him she might be pregnant. If she is spayed, she's probably just sick of being mounted all the time. Either way, you will need to separate them to prevent more fights breaking out and to prevent serious injury. The others are right, the more they fight now, the more difficult it will be to bond them after your boy is neutered. Wait at least 4-6 weeks before starting the re-introduction process after his neuter. You'll need to take it slow and start from the beginning since they've been fighting.

Bugs is the male and Lola is a female. Lola is not spayed. Thanks for the advice. I have been keeping then separate in 2 different rooms. But they are soo used to my room that Bugs will come and wait at the door of my room, waiting for it to open so that he can go Inside.

You should get them BOTH fixed for the buck he will/should calm down and for her you'll be reducing her chances for certain Cancers. The fact you let them together unfixed is highly irresponsible unless your a breeder or breeding to better the breed,but if your letting them just breed with no real purpose beyond they can is bad ownership IMO. And of course he wants to get to the Doe that's what Bucks do, their highly driven to breed. And as Azerane Said she could be pregnant and from your other topic you suspect she is as well.

Yes devi....I am planning to get him neutered and her spayed. This is the 1st time I have kept rabbits as pets and I was not given all the information. I had adopted them when they were really young. At that time it was impossible to say the difference between a male and a female.
Soo if me trying to get help and more information is called being irresponsible.... Soo be it.....thanks

And I found this forum a little late. If I would have found it earlier maybe I could have done something earlier. I did not buy them from a breeder. I took them from a place where there were at least 20 such bunnies in a small cage. And if I had to be a "bad owner" and "irresponsible" I would not be asking for help now. I am concerned about them soo I am asking for help.

Maybe your female rabbit is pregnant or, she feels pain during mating. If it is not mating season some females will avoid mating with any male but I don't know if that works in rabbits.

I think that bugs is just irritating Lola and bugs needs isolation. Have you ever heard the expression 'breeding like rabbits', well I suggest keeping bugs separate from Lola until he is neutered.

Thanks guys.......Lola seems much happier now that Bugs is in a separate room. But Bugs yet keeps going to the room door and waiting there hoping someone lets him in. It is soo cute but feel soo bad for him. Like a romeo waiting to meet his Juliet. Hehehhe
But on a serious note.... I guess it is helping Lola.

Hi.....sorry for the late update...... Bugs was neutered and is absolutely OK now. Bugs and Lola are together now. And Lola was not pregnant.
