Hi,

Im just new to the forum and was hoping some members could offer a bit of advice...

we recently found quite a large lump on peppers face at the base of ear, we took her to see our vet who examined her and said she thought that this was an abcess but to fna to be sure, we took a sample and examined this under the microscope, confirming this was indeed an abcess :( the vet also checked her teeth and said she had some spikes on her molar teeth ( i was quite shoked at this as she has been having no trouble with eating etc ) we booked her in to have an anaesthetic to assess the abcess, xrays and to burr her teeth. Her teeth were nowhere near as bad as what was first thought. They only needed the file ran over them. On xray pepper has an increased desity in the tympanic bulla, and there is pus discharging into the vertical ear canal when pressed. Our vet immediatly phoned the Dick Vet School to see what our best option was which is a ct scan then a lateral wall resection/TECA as appropriate, the vet has gave us a poor prognosis for surgery.

as pepper is still absolotley fine in herself, still eating, drinking, pooing as normal. Still as mad as brush. We opted not to do surgery as we could potentially make her alot worse :(

i just feel so useless atm, we have been speaking about penicillin g injections ? so scared for little my bunny, although she seems completly unaware of any of this !

vibes for my little monkey....

Sending good vibes your way for your bunny. Teeth can cause abscessand can affect bunnies ears, eyes, jaw. And bunnies are such good at hiding their illness.

Hats off to you! Looking at all the options for your bunny. And understand feeling useless. Been there with a sick bunny. Don't feel bad. You are not alone.

Please keep us informed on your little monkey.

K:)

Best wishes. Expensive, risky surgery probably wouldn't be the way I'd go, either. Let's hope for the best for your little one. :imsick:
:pet:

Thanks for the wishes :) yes it is quite expensive we were given an estimate of a £1000 for a ct scan and the op. But pepper has never handled ga well :( & dueto the location I do not think the surgery would be a success. money isnt really an issue, shes not insured but I would pay anything for her. even with surgery the vet has given a poor prognosis.

Im just hoping that shes with me for a few years yet :pray:really do not like sitting around and not doing anything tho :( shes to start penicillin-g injections on moday ? but I read that without opening the abscess and cleaning it,abx alone are usuallyunsuccessful. Im just so stressed about her, have not moved from the laptop most of the day reading what I can find about abscesses !
