Hello I'm Flemishkindaguy and I just took my 18 pound Flemish to the vet for her annual check up and I got awkward reply and here's wat he said. "She's fine and congratulations." I was confused so I asked what. And he told me she was preggers. I told him that she hasn't been with any bucks.
After I got home I realized she had been with a buck but it was a wild cottontail. A few weeks ago he had gotten into the pen with her. So the question is , do you think that could be the dad?

From what I know Cotton tails and Domestic rabbits are not able to breed with each other as they are genetically different.

I believe Devi is correct. From what I know, cottontails and domestic rabbits can not breed together. I believe it has something to do with chromosomes? (Someone correct me if I'm wrong. :) )

Oh I forgot to mention, she had gotten into my friends yard with her buck, but she said he was to young to breed.😅

If your friends buck is 4 months old (or it's fuzzies have dropped) it can breed! I saw once where someone said that cottontails couldn't breed with domestic bunnies, and then I saw a couple of other people pop in that said oh heck yeah yes they can! LOL I dunno though.

Wild cottontails can breed with domestic rabbits, but they can't have viable offspring. So it' s possible your rabbit is pregnant by the cottontail, but the kits won't survive.

If your friends rabbit is older than 3 months, then that rabbit could have mated with her. If she has live babies that survive, your friends rabbit is the father.
