Hello.

We took in a lone male recently. He's coming up to 5 months old. He was posted on a trading site as "free to a good home" saying he'd be released into the wild if not taken that evening, so we took him on with the intention of rehoming him.

However, didn't really go to plan and we've fell in love with him. Our plan is to keep him as a half-house rabbit. By this we mean he'll have range of the living area, the hallway and the room he is in whilst we are home, otherwise he'll be in his enclosure, also at night.

We've been looking at getting something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/48-RABBIT...et_Supplies_Small_Animals&hash=item3a73011c97

Will this be sufficient? We'd make it into a square so it would fit in the room.

Thanks for any help :)

Ex pens work great for housing rabbits. Make sure it's tall enough that he can't jump out and be aware that some rabbits are climbers and will climb out (unless you add a top).

Welcome to RO!

Very quick reply, thank you! My first bunny, so I want to make sure I do everything right, so I'm gonna be asking loadsa questions, haha

Those enclosures can work. I agree that you have to make sure that you're rabbit is unable to jump out, yes it may look too tall for them, but when motivated I guarantee that it's not ;) Bandit is one heck of a jumper.

Also, some rabbits are capable of lifting up pens like that and pushing under them, so also be warned of that. I don't think many rabbits do it, but Bandit is a terror for it. Otherwise, they are pretty good. :)

I have two new buns that I got in the same situation as yours but I got them from my neighbor so he wouldn't just turn them loose. I purchased an X pen for dogs off of ebay. I was able to make them a cage from it that is 48" high by 7' long. I used coroplast for the bottom and it has worked out well. It gives both buns plenty of room to run and binky.

Thank you. Do you think the measurements for that one would be okay? It comes with a net, so Harry wouldn't be able to jump out. The cage he's in at the moment isn't great (although a huge improvement on where he was!), so we want to move him out ASAP. We're giving him supervised free range and we're going to work on Rabbit proofing the spare room from tomorrow, so hopefully he'll at least have an open space which is his soon.
