Electoral Shifts- changes in how we voted this year

The December 12, 2005 issue of the New Yorker had an article about feral hogs that, in one section, managed to correlate the voting map from 2004 to feral hog populations. Areas with feral hog populations tended to vote Republican, while areas without a problem voted Democratic. For example, most southern states that tend to go Republican have large feral hog populations. (Though the Little Rock area reported no feral hogs, and voted for Kerry; same with Raleigh-Durham.) Kerry took all the Northeastern states, none of which have feral hogs. Florida has feral hogs in every county, and Texas has more feral hogs than any other state. California has feral hogs in most counties, and while it's electoral votes went to Kerry, California had more overall votes for Bush than any other state. There are more examples in the article that are really eerie.

Anyway, since I read that all I can think of is feral hogs when I see the red vs. blue state maps. I wonder how the feral hog populations have changed since that article was written? ;)

Sorry to make light of the election, I'm actually quite interested in the change in demographics, but it's such a relief that the election process is finally over!
