Basil is driving me nuts. When I gother, she was completely litter trained, but that has gone out thewindow. Now, instead of peeing or pooping in her litter, sheeats it. I filled the box 2 days ago and tonight when I wentto clean it, it had no litter and there wasn't any in the pan like shekicked it out.

She has Cel-Sorb litter, which is recycled newspaper, so I don't thinkit will hurt her, but sometimes I think she eats that instead of herpellets. Should I just not give her litter?

Also, I was going to switch to Woody Pet, but I don't know if that is digestible. Would eating it hurt her?

And, I'm going to be breeding her in a couple of months, would eating the litter hurt her babies?

Thanks,

Jen

That's a stumper. I wish I knew what totell you. I don't think you want her eating that much litter. If sheonly ate it once and then not again wouldn't be a problem. But if she's eating it everyday it adds up.

I know someone will know of an alternative for you.

get a box with a wire top over the litter that ismade for rabbits. you can add wire to the top of your box ori think bass has onewww.bassequipment.comi couldn't find it on their website but i didn't look to hard and iknow that it was in their last catalog.

Hi Cirrustwi,

This is a stackable bin and a craftscreenfrom thedollar store. I use it to keep Pebbles from sitting in theWoody Pet and kicking it out. The pee drains through and thepoop is easily cleaned out.:p Sometimesshe might eat the odd poop though. :X

Hope it helps.

How do you keep the screen inside thebox? I am having the same problem with my rabbit - only eatsthe litter now not his pellets.

Is biodegradeable, so I imagine it could be eaten. It is awood product. Wouldn't suggest it a a regular part of thediet for her, though, as she's doing with the newspaper product.

Nepo eats his litter too.But I took his litter box out. The screen seems like a good idea. Ihope he doesn't chew on that when I get it:X:p

Pet_Bunny's idea is ok but if your rabbit iseating the litter, who's to say she wont eat the plastic? Not tomention that I know my rabbits would manage to get that up.

So my suggestion is get a metal litter box with a metal grate on top.

I think she might be eating it because the litterlooks like her pellets. I agree with everyone else. You should definitly get a screen. Hope all goes well!

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.....The screen is a softplastic so it can be cut with a pair of scissors to form the shape ofyour box. If it is tight enough bunny can't pull it out.

At first Pebbles tried to dig it and chew it but now she doesn't botherabout it. You can also place litter on top the screen toweight it down and eventually use less and less until you don't needany litter on top.

I think I'll try the plastic screen until I canget a metal one. She doesn't seem to be eating ittoday. I caught her nibbling it, but as soon as I filled herpellets, she stopped. I'm not sure how that will work thoughbecause she can't have free access to pellets all the time, so I needto try the screen. I think Daisy needs ittoobecause she kicks her litter. I might try itwith my ferrets also because they are also litter diggers.

Thanks,

Jen

Okay, fo rthose who have swtiched to Woody Pet -will rabbits eat it? Has anyone had a pet eat thelitter? I don't think the screen idea would work for thespoiled one.

In the Woody Pet website:

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY HORSE EAT THE BEDDING?

The first thing that most horses do when they are introduced to WoodyPet Professional Animal Bedding is taste it. But because allof the tasty stuff has been removed it really tastes terrible, and itinstantly dries out their mouth. So far we have not had asingle report of a horse either continuing to eat our product, or introuble from doing so.

Chippy munched down on the WoodyPet for the first couple of days. Itkind of looked like the same thing happened as with horses. She wouldstart eating it and within a few minutes you could tell that she wasnot enjoying the way it broke down in her mouth. After that she hasn'teaten any, as far as I can tell. And no apparent ill effects.

Thanks guys! Sounds like it will beyucky enough to stop my bunny from eating thelitter. I've heard horses can be pretty stubbornabout eating and chewing on stuff too.

I must try Woody Pet. It sounds likethe best option, although, I may try the screen also. Daisylikes to sit in the litter box, she never seems to get dirty, but itstill bothers me that she sits in the wet litter. She refusesto poop in her box, but always goes there to do her pees. She's a little silly that way. LOL

So I'm thinking Woody Pet and screens all around. This iscertainly a crafty group, I'm always seeing where someone has madesomething.
