Hi All,

Our rabbit, Bogyó is a chinchilla colured, male, 3 and a half years old dwarf rex. Yesterday we have discovered small dark brown straight marks on the inner side of the right earflap halfway between the bottom and the top of the ear. ( see this photo)

We have googled for bunny ear problems but all we have found were description of ear mite symptoms - and they don't seem to match. The bottom of the ear, the earhole looks okay, and even around the marks the skin doesn't look irritated.

As this Wednesday we've been to the vet and she has cut his nails, we think that he has just hurt himself with those fresh-cut sharp nails.

Other than that everything seems to be fine. His behaviour and appetite is normal, no head tilt, no intense scratching, nothing.

My question: can it be the initial symptom of something serious, or are these probably just bruises and we are just overreacting? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Looks like a scratch to me from nails. I noticed a puncture than the scratch. My Willard did the same thing.

His ear looks very clean. As long as there is no redness in the ear, I believe your bunny is fine.

K:)

Sorry, forgot to Welcome you and your bunny to RO!

ZRabbits: Thank you for the quick answer! We also thought that it's the case - good to know other bunnies do the same thing :)

I also think it was a scratch, but check again for a day or 2 to make sure it's healing rather than getting red or whatever.

And welcome to the forum. The library section has useful information about a number of things, including health issues.
