So I bought new bunny food for my rabbit and it looks like it has dog treats in them. My male rex, checkers, absolutely LOVES:hearts them! I was wondering if i could give him regular dog treats instead as just a treat or reward? Has anyone else given their rabbits or knows if rabbits can have them? :?

Thank You!

Bunny food with dog treats in it??? What kind of food is it?

Dog food and treats have high levels of protien, because dogs are carnivores... Bunny are herbivores so they don't need all that protien! Now our bunny cookie occasionally gets a few bites of our dogs food, as he is obsessed with it lol however we prevent him from getting to it as best we can... Hes never gotten sick, but he's only had a few bites here and there...

I wouldnt feed your bunny dog treats, it's not good for their tummies :)

Thank You! It is called Forti-Diet (pro-health) it says it helps with heart, brain, and visual functions! It has regular pellets, and then it looks like small dog treats or dog food! When I feed my bunny he will only eat the "treats!" He's a little stinker! But I still love him!:p Thank you for your help!

You might want to stay away from those types of bunny food. Exactly what you dont want to happen is happening. He's avoiding the pellets and eating the treats! lol. I would stick to a plain jane no treat type bunny food. Wishing you the best of luck!

Oh. and no dog treats! lol

Also bunnies are herbivores and have a sole diet of plant based foods. Dogs being omnivores can eat plants and meats. Most dog treats are meat based and are not good for bunnies. I would stay away from dog treats. I know Petco is a big dealer of the Forti-Diet I have never used it but agree with Maria. Maybe just a plain pellet diet would be best for checkers

Heres some reading on pellet diets
