My two rabbits, Ellie and Mousey were best friends for at leasta year. Ellie pasted away on July 30th 2006 and I wonder if Mousie is depressed. Sometimes she won't seemed to care you came up to the cage and sometimes she will. Today I was just out there and she came up to me. A bit later she just sat there and looked sad. She's eating a drinking. Could it just be me? Or do you think she senses Ellie has left?

I can only assume that because a bunny bond is so close, depression is possible, if not likely.

I've seen it in cats. One of my cats passed away suddenly, and afterward the other one walked around howling miserably until we got her a kitten.

She hated the kitten at first, mind you....But now they are inseperable.

Rabbits definitely grieve for their companions, just like humans do. Poor Mousie is probably missing Ellie. Why don't you try spending a bit extra time with her, spoil her a bit and give her a soft toy or something to snuggle up too. When she has got used to Ellie not being there she might enjoy having another rabbit to be bonded with but personallyI think rabbits need to be able to grieve before they're given another companion. I hope she feels better soon.

While we had Ellie Mousie didn't get along with our other rabbits. She actually wants to attack them :sighIt took a while for her and Ellie to bond, 4-5 months. I'll have to spoil Mousie:)

Thanks for the advice :D
