Dawn is off to the vet with Zeke, he's making choking and coughing sounds.

She thinks it came on suddenly, but it's hard to tell because he shares his space with Baxter, who always makes choking sounds (and wheezing, snoring, honking, etc).

Maybe he has something in his throat? I had Radar look really sick with a celery string in his teeth, but he just went into a 'sick bunny hunch' and opened and closed his mouth a few times. But Zeke hadn't had any veggies.

She's afraid that he's trying to breath through his mouth, so maybe it's something different. <sigh>

Bad day (week) for bunnies.

Hoping to hear from her soon.

:(Be well Zeke.

Yay!! Zeke got the all clear.

Whatever was stuck in his throat, if that's what it was,is gone -- Baxter is molting, so maybe Zeke was grooming him and it was hair?.

Most importantly, there's no issue with his airway, he's breathing fine through his nose, as he should be, and his chest is clear. (Bunnies breath through their nose, there's quite a bit of separation between their airway and their mouths/throats so 'choking' doesn't mean the same thing as in humans).

Good news there.

So now let's hear some good news from Jim and Chippy?

Man am I ever relieved...

Zeke started to make the weirdest choking/gaging noises and kept opening his mouth. His breathing sounded almost like something was blocking his airway.

5 minutes on oxygen and he was much better. The vet looked up his nose and in his mouth for an obstructions. Listened to his breathing and didn't hear anything funny.

The vet would have had to put Zeke under anethestics to look down his throat, but since his breathing was okay and he'd stopped gagging by then, we decided to just keep an eye on him.

Since being home he's eaten a bit of hay and now he's relaxing on the shelf. I've put the pen up in case they want to run around, but it looks like they are pretty comfy in the cage...

The taxi driver scared the crap out of me when we got out of the car because he made this funny clucking noise at the buns but it sound just like Zeke did before we took him to the vets. But, Zeke hasn't made anymore noises since leaving the vets.

Sigh, well I guess peace of mind is worth $100...

Little bugger is all better now. Not a funny noise since the vet's office. Eating all his veggies, pellets and hay, and giving kisses like they're going out of style.

I think the little stinker just wanted some oxygen...

I'm so relieved that he hasn't had any other funny episodes since. My heart was stuck in my throat the whole drive to the vets.

Oh wow - glad to heareverything is okdawn! How far away is your vet? I'm always scared I won't get my buns to the vet in time if I had an emergency.

My vet's office is about a 10-15 minute drive from my house. There is another office just up the street from me, but I haven't dealt with them before although they also have a good reputation.

In a pinch, I could probably walk to the closer vet. But I was in such a panic I didn't think of that.
