Creating a temporary play area

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can create a temporary play area for my bunny to be able to get out of her cage? I have to wait about a week or so until I can buy her one of those ones at a store where she can have a play area. I know she needs time out of her cage but she hasn't been good about not peeing everywhere, but she is a baby so I know it takes time. She pee pee's all over her cage too. I want to be able to play with her without ruing my carpet or furniture :biggrin2:. I thought maybe a large laundry basket that I have that I can put a towel down and some toys and sit with her on the floor.

You could get a plastic shower curtain or table cloth at a dollar store. Put this down on the floor and put some blankets on top. This will prevent and pee from getting on the carpet. Putting some boxes or something around the blankets to keep her contained is good too.
If you can, get some NIC grids. They are shelving grids you get in the storage area of many stores like Walmart, Target and Home Depot. Zip tie a bunch together and make a play pen. If you can get a good price, it can be cheaper than an x-pen at a pet store and will keep most rabbits in better than the small play pens at pet stores. I have a pen that uses about 28 grids. The costs for mew grids here, the pen would cost about $40 and it is large enough for the rabbits to play in at agility events. I did get the grids at a garage sale, so it probably cost about $15. If your rabbit isn't apt to jump out, you would only need to make is 1 grid high.
If you are looking for something a bit more perminat that you can let her out in and leave up, get some interlocking foam mats. These are sold as mats for kids and come if different colours. They are 2X2 ft and come in packs of 4. As long as your rabbit doesn't chew them, they should be fine. They are easy to clean. Use an NIC pen around them. It can be put away if needed.

Thanks for the ideas. I am not even sure if our Wal-mart carries the grids, but I will look. She definitely is a little jumper. She can jump out of the laundry basket on to my shoulder and on to the couch. I haven't come up with a name for her yet, but I think a jumping name would be good.

Walmart carries the grids online. Just look for wire storage cubes. It's assembly required so instead of assemebling as shelves/cubes, zip tie them together. I do that each to the other on one side, and then I can set them up any way I want. It is also helpful b/c when done, they fold like an accordion and slide right under the bed!

The grids are great for making a play area

Do you have any where in your house that isn't carpeted? A hallway?, bathroom?, basement? If so, you could always use a baby gate and close off an area where it's safe for her to exercise.
