Sherry's abcess still seems to be get bigger each day. She's scheduled for surgery on Tuesday morning, but I was wondering if it could break open before that? Is it possible that it could pop open like a blister or pimple on a person, or will it be able to keep stretching.

Also, I have Metacam that she used to take for arthritis in her knee. Should I give her some? Until today it didn't seem to bother her, but she seems less active today. Well, I guess who wouldn't be with a lump the size of a ping pong ball on their little 2.5 lb body? Poor girl :( Does an abcess cause pain or is it more a matter of feeling uncomfortable?

Oh Poor Sherry! The capsule of an abscess thats in the jaw area should be pretty hard, so I dont think it will break open, but it is bad if its getting bigger. Any chance they could fit you in Monday? As it grows, you run the risk of it infecting more teeth and more jaw area, which makes surgery more invasive.

And yes, abscesses are very painful (for both humans and rabbits :)). I would go ahead with the Metacam if you have it.

Also, any TSC's or feed stores near you? It might be worth it to get her on Bicillin, which could help shrink the abscess or at least stop it from growing so rapidly.

Keeping Sherry in my prayers

(I should mention Max had one for months that kept growing and my vet didnt operate, so its painful but it is something they can live with for quite a while)

Thanks. There is a TSCabout an hour from here. But is that what you had mentioned that you give as an injection? If so, I've never given an injection. However, if Julie/Treasured Friend knows how to give an injection maybe I could take Sherry over to her house tomorrow if she will be home. I'll also call the vet first thing on Monday, but I think the earliest they could get her in was Tuesday.

I'm off togive her some Metacam.

P.S. If Baytril won't have aneffect on the infection, is it really necessary to give it?

Yeah its given via SubQ injections. Im not sure if it would be worth it though to do for 2 days. Might just be better to hold off and ask your vet about giving it after the surgery. Its a good precaution even if she does get all of the abscess out.

I would still use the baytril, just in case it is helping some (although I doubt it is).

Is she still eating ok?
