I am concerned about my baby because he has some discharge from hiseyes especially in the morning, and his third eyelid is showing as youcan see in the pic. He is eating and acting ok but the eyething is concerning me. I would have taken him to the vetalready but I am on medical leave from work right now and money isextremely limited. That being the case if you think it issomething serious I will try to work something out. I am veryattached already and don't want anything to happen to him.

I can't see any discharge in the picture.Perhaps you can describe it? Again form the picture the eye doesn'tseem irritated?

There is a link to eye health in the Rabbit HealthCheat Sheet at the top of the forum.I'm sure some one will beable to tell you more than I can. I would also just call the vet andjustask what they think.

What a beautiful baby, zoecat!

I bumped up a post that you might read that was created by BunnyMommyentitled "Lesson's I've learned...." It's got some greatinformation in there.

Without the vet doing a culture, it's hard to say whether it could beallergies or pasteurella or something else since the symptomsparallel. If it's Pasteurella, the little one needs tobe placed on meds and can survive, but not without the meds for therest of he life.

As I wrote in another post:

Total elimination of the Pasteurella, especially the rhinitis, infection is difficult, if not impossible. The bacteria lies asequestered pus in the labyrinthine nasal passages and are isolatedfrom antibiotics. Antibiotics can suppress the nasal discharge, but thebacteria will usually remain and repopulate when the antibiotictreatment is stopped.

Be careful of the vet who diagnoses Pasteurella without doing aculture/sensitivity test. With this test, the vet can determine whatpathogen is causing the infection and provide the antibiotics needed.Different strains (i.e., Bordatela brochiseptica, Streptococcus, etc.)would call for different antibiotics, but they're often misdiagnosed asPasteurella because the symptoms parallel.

Keep us posted. I'll be praying for you and yours.

Hey i also have alop bunnie and his eye you can see the 3rd lid when you hold him acertian way. I honestly dont think anything is wrong with your bunniealthough i didnt see any discharge in your picture.

was it like really bad or just an eye booger? Bo gets those sometimes when he gets a little bit of hay or something in an eye.

I've been thinking about this since you first posted.

I'm hoping and praying that this is not serious, however I would nottake any chances. IMO...I would make a visit to the vet and have aculture taken to provide an acuate diagnosis. I wouldn't accept adiagnosis without a culture being taken either, since the symptomscould fall into many catagories of conditions.

Is there any nasal discharge? If so...is it clear?

Do his front paws get matted from cleaning his eyes or nose??

How do his ears look inside???

Can you hear any difficulty in his breathing????

Have you got a name for the little fuzzie yet?!?!

Keep us posted!

:~) Jim

here's my little guy with his harem of girls. His ears andnose seem totally fine, his eyes seemed to have more discharge when Ifirst got him, but it disturbs me that you can always see that thirdeyelid. That almost seems like its getting worse withtime. He eats and seems healthy other than that. Hehas no real name yet but we've been calling him "larry the lop" or"harry the humper" when he's behaving badly with the girls.:D

I'm hoping that's all it is.

Our lop Binkie had runny nose/eyes and it ended up being pellet/hay dust.

All of our buns get "gookies" in their eyes from time to time.Sometimes a bit crusty...other times kind of gooey...generally in themorning or after the have been napping.

I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the weird way they seem to sleep with their eyes open

Oh Jim! Bo sleeps with his eyes open 98% of the time!!! drives me crazy!

Oh yes, Zoe..... I'm suffering from the photos! :p

That's just plain spooky! I don't like itone bit the way bunnies sleep! :XIt's just like the weird kidin school who used to flip his eyelids inside out and stare at youwithout blinking!

I hear you Raspberry! My mother in law was constantly commenting on how they sleep with their eyes open.

I'm glad that now my rabbits mostly sleep with their eyes closed. Notall the time, but it does warm my heart to know how safe and comfy theyfeel with us.

LOL that's exactly how I know Bo is asleep.

It drives me nuts tho! I want to close his eyes for him!

LMBO @ Raspberry and the weird kid! I hated that kid LOL!

I really cannot see what you are talkingabout. If it is a white area, it could be just someirritation from fur or something getting in the eye and irritatingit. As it moves out it goes to the corner of theeye, most the time I will see a few pieces of hair when I clean thecorner out. Seems like it comes and goes. Sheddingmay have caused it to flair up.

I was watching S'more last night and I was prettysure she was fast asleep with her eyes open. This was confirmed whenher head slowly dropped forward and she bonked her nose on the side ofher sleeping box. It certainly startled her and then she was lookingaround like..."Sleeping?? Me? No way!! I meant to do that ya know!!"

;)

You are gettingsleepy......very sleeepy. lol

Sometimes, when I watch Pebbles during her open eye nap, Ipretend to close my eyes, and her eyes would begin todroop. Samething when I wiggle my nose, she wouldcopy.

Rainbows! :p
