Hello all! I'm new to the forum but excited to be here!

I'm concerned about one of my two little rabbits. She's a Holland lop and I've had her for about a month now. I took her and my other bun (also only had for a month) to the vet just for a check up to make sure they were both healthy and good to go before I start to try to bond them. Both buns were subjected to a fecal examination to check for the big bad coccidia and low and behold, my little holland lop tested positive. The other bun is clean.

As soon as I found out she had it, I went ahead and made sure to thoroughly clean and disinfect everything I could for both buns.

Some background on Jinx, she's about 1yr and 7mo old. I've had her for about a week or so and I know she was well taken care of beforehand. Her spine is fairly prominent when I pet her but her tummy isn't bloated and her ribs aren't sticking out.

The vet prescribed Albon liquid. I'm not sure of the concentration but she got 2ml the first day (Thursday/2 days ago) and has gotten 1ml every night since as instructed. She is supposed to get 1ml every night for 8 more days.

So far her poops are normal and frequent but she isn't eating as much or drinking which I somewhat expected. I knew it might upset her tummy a bit, but I think she's farting? A LOT. It smells terrible, like sulfur. Her cecotropes are normal and she's eating them as usual so it's not those.

Is this normal? Can someone maybe help me in informing me of what to expect? I've had outside bunnies before but I've never dealt with anything like this. These two are also my first pets outside of family pets. So these two are the first that are under solely my care, so I want to make sure I don't mess up. I love them both so much.

Help?
Thank you!

There's always a chance that even the antibiotics that are considered safe for rabbits like albon, can in some instances cause digestive upset. It sounds like it's causing gas and I would be concerned about this because gas can occur due to the gut flora being put out of balance by the antibiotics, which could lead to diarrhea occurring, which would be an emergency situation.

I would contact the vet and tell them what's going on and your concerns. It may be alright to still continue with the albon as long as no diarrhea develops, but in the least you may need to start syringe feeds if your bun isn't eating normal amounts due to the stomach upset. It might also help to give your bun infant gas drops to help relieve the gas and gas pain that is occurring. Gas pain is generally considered a bad thing in rabbits as it often leads to them stopping eating, which is a bad thing where rabbits are concerned.

Also would be good to make sure the vet you are seeing is rabbit savvy.

Thank you so much JBun! My vet is rabbit savy and I'm planning on giving her a call on Tuesday anyway about something else so I'll ask her about it.
As for the gas... I have an embarrassing confession... I recently found out it's not gas. I work for a zoo like park and today I was handling a fox for a while. If you're familiar with foxes, you'd know they emit a smell a whole lot like skunks. I changed my clothes after and thought the smell went away but really I just went noseblind for a while. As soon as I got back inside after being out for a while, that's when I started smelling it. So my bunny doesn't have gas... I just smell terrible lol. After I took a shower and washed my clothes, the smell cleared out. Sorry!

She's still not eating as much of her pellets as usual but she is munching on her hay. I wonder if a probiotic would be beneficial?
