cmh9023(Cara) had pm'd me early lastweek re. a lionhead female that was up for adoption at my shelter.Whoever wrote the description of the bunny on pet-finder wrote a"generic" description that did not match this bunny at all.
I told Cara that this little female had a lot of serious issues.extreme cage aggression. fear of hands and overall a rabbit that hadnot been socialized at all. I did not encourage her to consideradoption as I knew that she wanted to bond one of her boys and thatthis bunny was going to need a lot of work. We left it at that. but shedid want me to let her know if anything was going to happen to therabbit.(PTS)
On Fri I got another Pm from Cara saying that Sapphire was missing fromthe website. I checked it myself and my heart sank...I knew that ifthey disappear off the site they are usually put down.
I apologized to her and we both felt bad as I didn't know that they were going to do it.
On Sat. when I went in I was elated to find Sapphire still in her cage.

She had been taken off the website because she was considered unadoptable and we were to decide what to do.

I immediately let Cara know and we both felt this was a "meant to be".
She is going to adopt this little girl, give her a good life and work with her "issues.

Carawas approved by the shelter and afterSapphire'sspayShe will be driving to LaCrosse to take sapphire back to Milwaukee
I am very very happy that a great Ro member is giving this little girl a chance!!!!

:happybunny:I know this bunny would not have made it out of the shelter.

Oh my gosh! WAY TO GO CARA AND ANGIELUV!!!

.

Big hug! You and Angieluvare so amazing for working togetherto save this little girl. I bet she will be so appreciative! Awesome!Hearing new like this is so great.

It is so rare that something like this happens (like Oberon and Angela)

it just happened!!
My shelter is very picky and fussy about adoptions but Cara passed theapplication with flying colors as her vet told us that "she is anexcellent pet owner"
She will have her hands full with this cute little girl ..she is almostimpossible to pick up...and thank God she is going to changeher name to something nice (Sapphire?)

She saved her life:elephant:

Oh I can hardly wait to read more about her and watch her become more socialized.

There is something about a rabbit like this - that as you work withthem - they can become loving and almost "heart bunnies" even.

I will be praying for this adoption to go well and for the rabbit to become socialized easily..

Blue eyes will come from the vienna gene which is often used for breeding mismarks.

Let me share some examples of 'vienna marked' lionheads..

Vienna marked harlequin (Sport)

Viennar marked siamese sable:

and here is my vienna marked siamese sable all grown up (the rabbit - not the cute guy):

Vienna marked rabbits are often called "sport" rabbits too - which is how Sport got her name.

Peg

P.S. Edited to add: Sport has one blue eye and one brown eye.

I think that she has a tatoo in her ear but itdoesn't look like a word just a blue dot or something. She is all whitewith blue eyes.
Also is it normal for lionheads to be extremely active ,curious andmoving abot a lot. This bunny is a going to be a real challenge as sheis a spitfire.

cmh9023 is going to be gone for a few days so she may not be contributing to this conversation until she gets back.

Ah - she is a blue eyed white.....such fun!

You said..

All I can say is - sounds to me like you've got a true lionhead at heart...YEP!

Let's see - Titania was 12 weeks old when she got on the dining roomtable and chewed on the bills (especially the mortgage bill).

Several of them have jumped or climbed over a 2 NIC Panel high "gate"for the rabbitry...some jump upon a tall dog kennel and then crawl overit to get into the house from the rabbitry....

Need I say more?

Do you have any pics? Or the rescue site?

I'm DYING to see her...

her cage opens from thetop and she already can pop right up out of it like a jumpingjack:D

she's off petfinder and I can't postpicsso I'm going to try and take some with a regular cameraand send them to Cara.

What I'll do is try to find a pic of another lionhead on-line that looks like her

Oh I know what a blue eyed white looks like -there are probably a handful of responsible breeders who breed them(I'm thinking of breeders who are in the lionhead club and haveread/studied about genetics and try to breed true to type and mane).I'm torn right now between continuing to breed blue eyed whites orgetting out of them - right now I think I'm going to be taking abreak....tough choice though.

But sometimes when you see a rabbit - you learn a lot about its personality just from the photos...if you know what I mean!

Oh yay! Congrats on your new girl,Cara! I hope she likes your little boy. Wedefinately need pictures once you get her. I know you have adigital camera!!!

Oberon says white bunnies from Angieluv's shelter are the best!:bunnydance:

Cara is in Portland right now but she said thather girl (that isn't friendly) accidentally got into the boys' area andthey bonded by accident. (Get that one for luck)

So she is taking the lionhead as a new single.

Geez I wish I had that kind of luck.

Hey, that means Cara will need another bun to bond with thisgirl! You know, my local shelter had a male lionhead versionof Fey. Seriously, he looked just like her but with a smallstripe by his tail, a thin mane, and boy bits. He might stillbe there because he was cage aggressive. They don't usuallypost animals on Petfinder unless they've been there a really long time.

Wow, this is wonderful! Im so excited to see pics!

If she has a dot in her ear, its most likely that she came fromMarshalls, who supply Petco with their bunnies. I think the marks arefor male/female.

I love blue-eyed white lionheads (like Daisy Mae)! They are so pretty!

Oh good for you and Cara and the Sapphire! I hope everyone will be happy for a long time, I know they will be :D
