Are you giving the Oxbow Healthy Handfulls pellet, made for hamsters/gerbils/mice? That has a lot more protein and fat than a bunny should have.
hi,claire--bless your heart ,,that is good info,,and advice--i will look for the oxbow,,timothy/lowfat/pellets,,even though the daily amount given/fed is a small hand full--.my objective is for the fat guys to loose weight,,,i don,t believe reber ranch had the rabbit version,,so i will do some research/and your posted website...sincerely james wallerI have that pellet, and I give it to my hamster. I checked it out yesterday and it has around 17% protein and 4% fat, which is pretty high for a bunny. For instance, Oxbow Bunny Basics T is 14% protein and 1.5% fat. I don't think the Healthy Handfuls would be good for trying to get a bunny to lose weight, with all that protein and fat. In addition, it's made for omnivores, not herbivores, so the balance of other nutrients might be off--hamsters will eat meat and bugs as part of a healthy diet, and bunnies typically don't do that.![]()
