I have never given my rabbits oral chloramphenical . None of the vets here would ever give it to a rabbit / most likely they don't know what it is or would be afraid to dispense it .

I Know that theCanadian drug is call Chlorpalm
I am wondering how vets dispense this drug both in US and Canadaand UK (also if it is legal in UK)
Does it come in a liquid that is compounded and flavored. ? Isit refrigerated ? Does the vet give you a whole bottle or just enough for a few weeks . has anyone every had health issues from it . has their rabbits ever had side-effects .
I know that chloramphenical comes in tablets> Are those ever dissolved and used .

Since we have a thread running right now with a member who would like to get a prescription for it I decided to find out more now for both of us

My vet gave me a bottle of it. I can check the amount that was in the bottle when I get home. It was a thick white liquid, and you have to shake well before administering.

The storage temperature is between 15 and 30 degrees celsius.

The flavour is just sugary or sweet. My buns seem to like it the first 3-4 times before deciding that they don't want any more and I have to persuade them to take it.

Hi! I have Twinkles on ChlorPalm 250 for over 2 months to date for Head Tilt. I also have Bon Bon on it now for close to 2 months for tooth abscess. It comes in a white plastic jar as a white creamy liquid. It seems to have a sweet scent and does not have to be refrigerated. The label name is ChlorPalm and when you look at the ingredients, it states Chloramphenicol. I have had it at 125 which meant I had to give double the dose than the 250. Trust me, when you have a bunny rolling around all over the place, one squirt in the mouth is a lot easier to give than 2 or 3 squirts. I was also given Chloramphenicol by a pharmacy for people when the vet ran out. It was horribly bitter, even when mixed with a sweetener and it gave Twinkles a bad case of the runs, as well as being almost impossible to administer. Twinkles just spit it out!
It has been very well tolerated and neither has gotten the runs from it. I give it to them 2 times a day on a Triscuit, just squirt it on and let it soak in. I am not sure if the Triscuits are that good for them [they love those Triscuits] but after going through picking them up then doing it on the floor, I tried putting it on apples, banana, and they would not touch it.
They got so stressed when I picked them up so I worked out cradling them between my knees, holding them down with my arm as I used one hand to open their mouths and the other hand to squirt it in their mouths. They were extremely difficult to catch after a week, knowing it meant meds, so I eventually put it on the Triscuits. They have been much happier since then and so far no ill effects.
It took a great deal of convincing one of the previous vets to give it to me and then she would not give me more than 3 or 4 weeks worth. Fortunately, Twinkles now has a vet that knows that they may need it sometimes for months, thanks to Pipp, and Bon Bon's vet just prescribed it.

It's called ChlorPalm 250
Chloramphenicol Palminate Oral Suspension 60 ML
Active ingredient per ML 50 MG of chloramphenicol
Made in Canada by Vetoquinol
Twinkles gets 1.5 ml twice a day
Bon Bon the same
Their weight was 2.2 kg and 2 kg I think.
Hope this helps.
