Oh, ya know...I forgot to add that the reason why we buy reverse-osmosis filtered water is because that's the only filtration that removes fluoride from the water, which has been known to cause cystitis in kitties. But if your kitty doesn't have these issues already (or yet, as the case may be), it'd be perfectly wonderful to use regular filtered water. :) (We just use the reverse-osmosis filtered water for our Hobbes, who already has cystitis issues.)

Hugs! :)

Flouride in the water caused us problems in the past with our cats. It also nauseates me horribly. Can't even use a flouride toothpaste without getting sick.

We finally fixed the RO water filter that came with the house a few months ago, so that's what we're using. They all seem to like the taste more.

Also, I really don't recommend buying bottled mineral water (RO is different because it's actually treated) because some of the bottled water companies just use tap water from cities that have good tasting water. Why pay that much for tap water? Pitcher and faucet filters are good though and they do actually work. How do I know? Well, I started working for Pentair about a month ago and I do the pre- and post- production testing on water filters we make for a bunch of different companies to make sure the meet standards for removing chlorine, lead, and other nasties. Just make sure you replace the filters as recommended because a.) filters wear out over time/use, primarily the active carbon in them, and b.) bacteria can grow on the filters and make them nasty if they sit around for too long.

Julie, I'm interested in what you said about Innova EVO. When I was searching for foods for Lily, who has a sensitive stomach, I read a lot of problems about tummy problems EVO so I never tried it. What works best for Lily is both dry and wet Chicken & Rice California Natural, which is made by the same company, and dry chicken Nutro. Nutro makes Eve's coat a little nicer so I feed that for one meal and wet Cal Nat for the second meal. Scheduled meals are necessary in this house because Lily overeats badly. Seriously badly, like the vet had to put her on a diet when she was an active 6 month old kitten because she was eating 3x what she should!

Well with Tbone, when she was diagnosed with the beginings of Kidney failure a year and half ago - I really thought I was going to lose her. She was literally - just suddenly dehyrdated and had diarrehea.

When I took her to the vet she was given, fluids to come home with her and antiboitics and a shot (which, forgive me I've forgotten the name of - but it gives cats with kidney disease a great "burst of energy" starts with an E - get them eating again. )

Anyhow, I researched as best I could and found through Yahoo, a Geriatric cat site and they suggested that her diarrehea was being caused by irritable bowel ( was feeding her an RX brand through from my Vet that was for cats with kidney problems, as he step-brother Ramsey died of PKD). So I made the switch and she recovered from all problems within 3 days.. I think the fiber was causing her to have irritable bowel so this brand has really worked for her specific situation.

She obviously did not recover from the begingins of kidney failure (or slowing I prefer to say - she is 19 years old), but other than her need of alot of water - she seems to be fine (that and alot of Petromalt - she screams for it 3 times a day and I don't withhold it even though its probably to much)..

And other then this weekends bought of anal gland issues she's been great for the last year and half - but she is slowing down monthly, so she may be joining her brother this year at the "Bridge", but knowing her - she'll keep going and that would be just excellent if she can hang around a little longer to yell at me daily - lol..
