So I discovered a little passtime of Miss Dori....chewing my carpet :?. I have toys for her, I have toilet paper tubes. I plan on buying her some baskets for her to chew on also this weekend. The question is, if she keeps doing it, how do I get her to stop? Is there like a sound or something I can make to get her out of the habit of chewing up the carpet?

Ok so I need to know if this is ok or if I should not do it anymore to make her stop. I do a really loud clap and say her name loudly and she stops and runs away when she's nibbling on the carpet. Will this traumatize her in any way?

You don't want her to comsume carpet fibers. They can cause impaction in the gut if enough is eaten.

The only thing I can suggest is to maybe spray the area of carpet where she chews with a spray that is available that will divertthem, I can't think of what it is though. Otherwise, if she's chewing everywhere, you'll just have to keep doing the clapping thing (which won't traumitize her) and just keep a watchful eye when she's out.

Angel, are you talking about that bitter apple spray stuff? You can get that in about any pet supply catalog. As far as I know, that stuff would be safe for carpet.

Bitter apple or a product called Phooey! are good ones. Just be careful to wash your hands thoroughly after spraying. If you accidentally touch your mouth and get that taste on your lips or tongue...

Well, you'll know why the bunnies stop chewing!:tears2:

Yes! The bitter apple spray, I was thinking it was something apple, but couldn't remember;). Thanks!

Does that stuff make the room smell bad or does it stain the carpet in anyway?

In my experience, both bitter apple and Phooey! are odorless and leave no residue. I've sprayed furniture, carpeting, woodwork, and electrical cords.

I've also accidentally experienced the taste.:faint:It's not just that the stuff is bitter...it's that I couldn't seem to get rid of that taste for hours. That actually made me feel badly for the cats and bunnies who encountered it on the furniture...but bad taste in their mouths for a day is better than the options!

Okay, so it may help you all if I am spelling it correctly.

It's Fooey! manufactured by Mensa Products. (Sorry...think I've got the Ph thing mixed up with something else we use :?).

There is no website on the container...but it's a pretty old spray bottle. Lasts forever. I can't find a website for the manufacturer either. I'm certain I got it at a pet supply store.

Sorry there's so little info available. Hope you are able to find a product that helps!
