One of my best friends rescued a tea-cup poodle that was on death row here in a So. Cal Animal Shelter (Lancster to be exact).

She has had "Elliot" for about 4 months and has now been given the diagnosis that he has denegrative knee problems (forget the medical term) and has to have surgery on both back legs to the tune of $8000 (she has seen 2 orthapedic surgeons giving her the same diagonosis)..This is along with that he needs 2 teeth pulled (that she can carry and will cost about $350)..

Is there an orginzation that can help offset the cost? She does have Pet insurance on him, but found that as he was seen by the "Animal Shelter" vet prior to she adopting him, her pet insurance is considering this "pre-existing" and will not cover it...

Any suggestion greatly appreciated.

Sure, there is Care Credit and IMOM but what exactly do they have?

Is it Luxating Patella? If so, have your friend find out the grade in the knees and I can tell you more... Also, if it would be appropriate for either dog I have a canister of Synovi G3 soft chews that may be of help I could send...

Yes it is Luxating Patella! She said the last specialist said he is at a stage 4 in one leg and stage 3 in the other (both back legs are affected). I'll pass on your suggestion to her of the Synovi G3 soft chews - is this a med/anti-inflammatory?

Further what is IMOM? I know of Care Credit and have used them in the past.

Thanks!

Julie
