Bunny shows?

So, I have come to the decision that I would love to show rabbits! I groom some show dogs and have done dog handling classes, but know nothing about showing bunnies. I am meeting a man tomorrow night to see some of his angoras and hes part of the ARBA. How do I get started? Where do i look online for tips?

Well, Looks like you've decided on your breed... a good first step! And it's good that you ahve grooming experience with the Angoras! You'll get plenty of practice!

Let the breeder know that you are interested in showing. He may be willing to help you, kind of mentor you, until you get the hang of it. Ask him what shows he goes to. You can go on the ARBA website (www.arba.net) and look for local shows to attend. You may want to go to your first one without rabbits, just to get a feel for the process. Talk to other breeders. Look at other rabbits. Watch the judging and LISTEN to the judges. Order a copy of the ARBA book of Breed Standards and read it for the breed you will be doing. Know what they are looking for and how they evaluate the rabbit.

And most of all, have a good time. Most Rabbit people are more than willing to help out and educate... Ask questions... Talk to breeders.... Talk to judges (when they are NOT judging!) Get opinions. I think you'll like it a lot. I think it's MUCH better than showing dogs! (Been there... Done that... no need to go back!) This is a LOT more fun and interesting. You actually HEAR the judges comments on your rabbit (NOT like dogs!). All those comment can be applied to future breedings and evaluations.

I'm getting 2 does and a buck from the guy tomorrow. He has already agreed to keep emailing me to help out. there is a show coming up next month near me, so I'll be going to that. I even talked my hubby into fully supporting me! (he only likes his cats)I'll invest in the book, thanks a ton!
