Hi there, my boy Rodney seems to be showing signs that he's either scared or not happy or unsociable. Around about 7pm he's jumpy and hides under the sofa and will not come out for around an hour and a half. Tried giving him treats and he eats them and runs back under the sofa. Before 7pm he's very happy and sociable and even does a few binkies. But once he runs under the sofa, when he eventually comes out he explores eveything all over again as if he doesn't know where he is. Not the same bunny I had last week as its only just recently started. Can anyone tell me what they think this is about?

I would pay close attention to what is going on at that time in your home. Is the tv on and what is playing, a show with loud noises? If you have kids are they active at that period or even maybe a little louder than normal? Are you moving around more often getting things done? If you have other pets, are they more active?

Also pay attention to what might be going on outside. More traffic going by? neighbors that come and go a lot at that time?

Since you say this behavior just started recently I would pay attention to figure out what may have started recently. If you have close neighbors it could even be that a new neighbor does something every night that your bun may hear but you don't even notice.

My buns always go around sniffing and chinning everything they come across even though they have done it hundreds of times before. Are you sure he's just not needing a nap or rest at that time? He may feel safer resting under the couch than out in the open which is just normal bunny behavior. Thumper is not too fazed by much but there are times when he wants a rest and there is more commotion in the house than normal that he will go and lay where he is not in the open.

Thank you both very much for your reply. That's really helpful and I will definitely look into what's going on at that time of day.

Hopefully it's just his way of saying he wants a rest. I just don't want him to become really unsociable. I'm thinking of making him a dig box to entertain that bit more.

Is it about that time you may possibly be putting him in his cage for bed? Maybe he's picked up on bedtimes and doesn't want to go :)

Maybe that's what he's thinking but I go to bed around half 9 which is when I put him to bed but he's not that used to his routine as I've only had him a short time. But this is something that he's just started doing.
