bunny in southern california! (wanting to breed/adopt for breeding)

I am looking for a new bunny. preferably a Holland lop baby female. maybe 5 weeks or so.I amhaving trouble finding anything in the southern California area (rancho cucamonga). does anyone have any ideas on how to go about looking for one. or any breeders with this kind of rabbit would be great to hear from. thanks! (im new by the way i hope im posting this in the right place)

I'm not in the area (I'm over in Northern AZ), but baby rabbits shouldn't be sold until they are 8 weeks old. I would say 7 weeks is okay, but 5 weeks is too young to be going to a new home. I would look for a baby that is 7+ weeks old...reputable breeders should not sell their babies younger.

You can also look in a rescue. I am sure there are lots of rescues near you filled with bunnies.

There are three chapters of the House Rabbit Society in CA. I am not familiar with CA so I don't know if they are near you but I do believe they will try to transport a bunny a little ways. Here is the website http://www.rabbit.org/chapters/index.html

thanx for all your help everyone. unfortunatly, all those places are pretty car from me. i decided to take my girlfriends rabbit (holland lop) to a near by bunny farm, and breen him with a really cute brown and black bunny. im sure they will come out cute ill take pictures of the whole litter and then tell you all which one i picked! thanx again.

I am trying not to be harsh, but that was insanely irresponsible. You bred a litter of bunnies to get only ONE bunny from the litter. What about the rest of the babies ? Did you think about genetics and what the outcome could be if the mother or father carried bad genes?

All it took was finding a rescue or a reputable breeder. There are so many rabbits in shelters getting euthanized as we "speak" because people breed them to get "cute baby bunnies" or to make a buck or two.

no no its not like that.:cry1: its a bunny farm. its run by this old lady i know. shes really sweet. and she asked me one time to bring my lop eared bunny over to mate with one of her bunnies because she would like to add lop eared bunnys to her collection of bunnies. shes got this huge play pen(about the size of a master bedroom) for her bunnies and she takes super good care of them. they get a veggie dinner and everything everynight. its like a bunny spa.she asked me to bring my bunnie over a long time ago. i decided id take her up on that since i wanted a bunny, and also thought it would be cool to have offsrping of my bunny.



she also has taken alot of bunnies from shelters and cared for them. shes a really sweet person.

I am guessing they aren't all spayed or neutered?

There are plenty of lop eared rabbits in shelters.


Next time, go to a shelter. The bunnies you have bred are taking up spaces that could have went to more shelter rabbits if she is still adopting from shelters.

Rabbits are like dogs in cats in shelters...there is so many of them. Rabbits are the 3rd most abandoned pets in shelters. It really hurts me, personally, to see people breeding...when it is just as easy to go to the shelter and adopt a rabbit who may be on it's way to being euthanized.

iv been looking for rabbits in shelters for 3 months. the only one i could find is bunnybunch in my area. and they have a $80 fee for taking their bunnies. thats rediculous. i dont feel i need to feel bad for doing this, nothing im doing is hurting rabbits. some other irrisposable person decided to have bunnies they couldent take care of. dont you think you should be yelling at them and not me.

$80 is super cheap. You can get a free rabbit, but it will then need a spay/neuter surgery. It costs $99 for a spay and $85 for a neuter in my area.

Bunny Bunch is an awesome rescue. You could have taken in a lucky rabbit that was already spayed/neutered.

You don't need a show quality rabbit if the rabbit is just a pet. There are many reputable breeders selling pet quality stock for $20 or so. We got our pet quality Holland for $40 from a reputable breeder.

Glad to hear your brother is a vet and can get your bunny(ies) spayed/neutered for free.

thats exactly what im saying. the only place i could find with rabbits in my near area was the bunny bunch and they were asking $87 for a pet quality rabbit. if i wanted to spend that much i could go get a show quality one, which i dont want. so it doesnt make sence for me to spend 80 bucks on an animal that i could get for free because she would get a lopp eared bunny from somwhere no matter what so it might as well be mine and i might as well take one from his litter.

see if u read up at the top. i asked where i could find a bunny. i got "petfinder.com" that doesnt help much. nobody told me where else to find any so i decided after 3 months of no luck i might as well just do this.

You are new to this forum so we want to welcome you.
There is so much for you to learn if you stay on the forum. Everything you would want to know about rabbits
We have plenty of people who are rescuers (like me) and breeders(like tinysmom) on this forum but we do advocate either adoption orknowledgeable and educated breeding rather than just putting 2 rabbits together and seeing what you get.

But you didn't know anything about this so we need to just move on from here and help you with your new bunny .

I think that if you stay on the forum and read more posts that you will understand why undergunfire seems upset
But for now just take a look around the forum and get acquainted.

Have you ever bred before? How much research have you done on breeding?

Welcome to the forum.

I can't say I agree with what you've done, but it's done now and we just have to look to helping you in/with the future (if you want it). I would also suggest keeping an eye out for rabbit syphilis in your bun and any other potentially contagious rabbit illness.

i myself havent done any breeding. the lady i guess has had bunnies all her life. i assume she knew what she was doing, i just left my rabbit there for a day and picked her up the following. honestly it really wasnt up to me she wanted to do it so i agreed.:cry2

Hi and welcome!
Definitely be sure your girlfriend has a good vet on hand. Pregnancies can be complicated, especially if you have not bred this bunny before. You will want to check out our library and get some information about what to do when the babies come in about 30 days from the date you bred her.
We hope we can see lots of pictures- babies are so much work but so much fun.
Again, welcome and please feel free to ask lots of questions as your girl prepares for her first litter.
