Well...Bun Jovi is not going to get a neuter today. Nothing dropped because Bun Jovi is a girl. From this day forward she is known as Bun Joviette. Still Jovi for short, because that's what she knows, but we opted out of the spay. She's barely 5 months old and a spay is so intrusive, we'd rather wait until she's filled out more and can better tolerate the anesthesia. Maybe around 8 months to a year. Funny thing..I almost bought a little pink Paris Hilton type pet carrier yesterday, but didn't because I figured Robbie would kill me.

Yes Nancy. The vet kind of scared me a little. She told me that there's always a risk involved with bunnies and anesthesia. She said that she's never lost one with with a spay or neuter but other vets have had problems. She starts with a half dose of anesthesia and then comes back and gives a little more depending on where the bun is at in it's sleep. Then she told me that girls are more apt to have problems because the surgery is more evasive blah blah and she uses glue, not sutures, because buns tend to chew their sutures out. I know that after all of that info that my eyes must have resembled one of those ermahgerd pictures. The assistant was left with me, who has kept bunnies and she told me that personally she would wait until Jovi was a little older and had filled out better so she would be better able to handle the anesthesia. That was all I needed to hear. I popped Jovi back in the crate and scuttlebutted right out of there. Good grief and the face of a bunny in a crate at the vet's office...is there anything more pitiful?

Also, the next bunny will be a rescue. Jovi was a surprise purchase by my son, for my son, but when I get my own personal bunny, it will definitely be a rescue.

Jovi is a perfectly acceptable girls name :nod

I agree with waiting for smaller Bunnies! I found a vet that will do it really cheap when they are under 6 months, but I think it's worth the money to wait. LOVE the head bow! I want one. Chive would probably rip it off in about 2 seconds, a Lionhead with attitude.

Wow. I have heard this is quite common with bunnies. For a short while I thought maybe my Lucy was actually a Ricky, but I was just being paranoid. At the same exact time, my friend in FL found out his little"boy" was a girl. We laughed our butts off.

I am sure you love Jovi no matter what. She really is a cutie! And I love the pink bow.

Absolutely we do love her. She has already proven herself to be a little Diva. I'm reading too that this happens a lot. I actually mis-sexed and mis-named my cat too when she was a kitten. Fortunately Sammy can fly for both girl and boy. I did Bun Jovi's first sexing when she was around 12 weeks old. I had never sexed a bunny before so naturally I went online and found pictures of the different sexes. All signs pointed to boy, I got a little glimpse of what appeared to be boy parts, but there was much squirming....so to confirm, I asked a friend of mine who has actually bred lionhead rabbits to give it a look and he said boy too....but again there was much squirming. Fast forward to almost 5 months and the appearance of no "little lungs" I was worried that they just hadn't descended. Gee and I was so ready to get this neuter behind us!

Georgie's a lion head and also snuck into the house under crossdressing shenanigans. I was told she was a boy when I got her, hence the name George, but as more time went on the more suspicious I got. I asked my vet about it and he said I should be able to tell but I told him... there's a lot of hair. After many attempts to goose the bunny, which was not taken kindly to AT ALL, I decided she must be a girl. On our first trip to the vet for nail clipping I asked if he could check and his first words were 'there's a lot of hair'. I felt justified.

We waited until George was almost a year old for her surgery. It went fine, we got glue not stitches as well, and she healed up so fast I wished I could bottle it and use it on myself.

I still call her George half the time and Georgie the other half. She doesn't care and I kind of get a kick out of having a girl named George. Unfortunately without a rocking pink bow but I just won't let her see any pictures of Jovi and she'll never know what she's missing.

Thankfully if you look at pictures of Bon Jovi in the 80s, he kinda looked like a girl....so Bun Jovi(ette) shouldn't be too confused with her new name! She's adorable!

It is very common. There's a couple videos on you tube I've watched. They helped me sexing Oreo.

Hahaha! I love the little bow! Its so crazy how rabbits are difficult to sex. Love that the name can still be used - that's always good! If my Heidi had been an accidental boy, s/he would have had a very embarrassing name. :p

Seeing your little crocheted bow makes me want to try - and fail - to make some for my two. Maybe a collar instead for my boy to maintain some of his masculinity. ;)

It's actually been quite the experience now that Jovi has been exposed. She's such a wonderful little rocker. When she's bad, she's called "Bunny" hey you BUNNY NO! and then she's good and she's sweet snookums oh hell no you did not just bite me! It's time for her spay.
