I am so sorry to hear this. I know your heart is broken and I know just how you feel. My first rabbit died of GI Stasis on a weekend and vet help was not available. I followed advice (not from this site) that was wrong and incomplete and she died at home. I have learned from RABBITS ONLINE things that I could have done that might have saved her life and I feel I'll never forgive myself. My heart is still broken.
But I've found comfort in sharing her story here and in sharing my love with two new bunnies. I've found some comfort in knowing that no one could have loved my bunny more or tried harder. I try to focus on the loving times we shared but it's hard, I know.
As Brandy said, please don't blame yourself. It was clear from your posts that you were doing everything you could and that you showed her that she was loved and that she mattered. Rabbits are fragile and mysterious and we all make mistakes and learn from them. Perhaps you will use what you've learned with another bunny someday.
You did a wonderful thing by caring for this rabbit who adopted you and showing her what love feels like. She's at peace now, no more pain, only memories of a gentle man who loved her in her last hours on earth.
I'm so sorry to hear this.
She may have been in trouble already when she found you. I've heard of animals finding humans right before they pass, just to have one final loving encounter. Maybe that is all she needed from you.
I am so sorry for your loss. Blaming yourself and second guessing what you did or didn't do is part of the grieving process. We all do it. You did your best, she is at the bridge hopping with the rest of our babies.
Please don't blame yourself, the stasis may not have been caused by that at all since the vet didn't feel a blockage. Sometimes it just happens. Bless you for taking her in and making her last weeks happy where she didn't have to struggle in the wild, you gave her a chance.
You were a good caregiver to a rabbit. I hope you will try again when you feel the time is right. You can find a rescue organization in your area at petfinder.com or adoptapet.com.
