I bought a bale of straw, divided it upto store till needed in our garage. I had them in new green waste bagsand i sealed the bags up so no "bugs "could get in and ended up witheither fur mites or hay mites.

They are long gone now and i used all the straw on my garden(far away from my bunnies) but im worried about bulk buying straw andhay now. 2 buy half a bisciut is half the price of a bale.

Whats the best way to store hay and straw?

Thanx in advance:thanks:

These hay bale storage bags are nice

Hay should be kept dry and be allowed to breathe. Hay mustalso be kept up off the floor - never leave it sitting on a cementfloor. It shouldn't be stored inair-tight containers.

I break the hay bale apart, but it in a large plastic garbage bin and lightly cover to allow ventilation.

Fur mites are common in rabbits and most have them to somedegree. It's not practical to completely sanitize hay and notsafe to use insecticides on it.

We use a BIG garbage bag and cut slits up anddown the sides to allow for ventilation...then store it in the bunniescloset in their playroom!:)

A bunny friend of mine, Julie gave me a goodidea, she told me to store my straw in an old single bed doonna cover.that way you are keeping out "bugs" and allowing the straw tobreathe.Im going to buy another bale now the weather is cooling downhere and see how i go.

Thought i might pass this on to anyone who is interested.

I store my hay in my room but when the wheatergets hot it goes down to the storage room. Its really cold there so itstores them well. put it in a bag. Seal it tight and then put it in abox.. it works for me. I never put it in the garage becuase my dads caris in there and the fumes may not be good.
