Hi

Today I had gotten a mini rex named Gus. He is kinda skittish, because the previous owner didn't have the time to play with him much.

I have been doing alot of online reading about rabbit ownership and the gal I got Gus from gave me some odd instruction on caring for Gus.

She told me she's been feeding him parrot food. Is that ok? Im thinking of getting him some high quality pellet food. The previous owner said he doesn't like any kind of pellets? Any advice on that please?

I clipped his nails tonight because they were super long. Gus did real well with the nail trimming ( way better then our dog does ) I used a toe nail clipper, is that ok?

Parrot food isnt good for him, and that is not recommended for feeding him that. Seeds, and nuts arent good for him. You need to switch him to some good rabbit pellets that you can get at your local farm store.. And also get him some Hay. Hay isn't that much about $5 a bale or less. And it last you for couple of months.. Hay is good for their teeth to be shorter. But get him on some good pellets.

How do I change his food to a pellet food? I read that seeds are bad for rabbits also.

Today, I will be getting him some timothy hay and some good pellet food, plus some toys.

This little guy will definitely have a change of lifestyle, and I hope it don't stress him out.

You need to check through the library here for info. Depending on his age he will different needs--younger rabbits need higher amounts of calcium and protein while they are growing. Parrot food is for Parrots, not bunnies. We use a timothy based pellet and unlimited timothy hay. If he's old enough, 6months, you can also introduce vegetable into his diet.

Did some bunny shopping today. Bought some timothy hay, and some pellet food called ecotrition. And few other treats for him. Since it was also grocery shopping day, we got some veggies for him and us. Lol. Hope he enjoys his salad tonight, cuz were having one too! (Romaine, cucumber and carrots)

You should introduce one veggie at a time if he hasn't had any before (like for a human baby) so if he has a reaction, you'll know to what foods

Many bunny's recommend their slaves to this site so we may learn of others methods to keeping our furry masters happy.

*To brag or tell everyone about the antics of your bunny or just to talk about your day here is where to start a Bunny Blog, you can also look back at it later and remember when you had a life before your bunny.

*Now all the bunny’s like talk to each other when we mere slaves aren’t around in the Bunny Chat is the spot to be.

*Rabbits Online also has regional forums , this a good way to find a vet in your area that has experience with rabbits and to find out from other nearby of good sources of rabbit supplies.

The Let Your Hare Down section is for anything non-bunny related.

Here is a link tothat will help you and your bunny to connect, How To Bond With Your Bunny.

Now every forum has rules and ours can be found with this link Rabbits Online Forum Rules. This gives guidelines on what is acceptable, what is not and how we hope everyone will treat each other.

Everyone on this forum loves to see pictures of each other’s bunnies. So if you would like to post a picture this link will help you do that, Upload Photo's to Photo Gallery. Then in the post, you click on the "G" in the tool bar to insert your photo. Many people also use Photobucket. You just copy the img file and paste it into the post.

I am glad you have joined rabbits online and I look forward to seeing you around.

Thank you for the advice! I appreciate all of it. Especially the toilet paper roll for the hay, I was trying to figure out what to put it in. I just had it laying in his cage.

I know he loves carrots and romaine lettuce for sure now, but he didn't touch the cucumber pieces. So I will try a different veggie weekly, every week there will be something different in his diet.

I think Gus is settling in a whole lot better now, I open his cage and after a few seconds he hops out and sniffs out the room he is in.

:biggrin2:
