Sometimes Merlin likes to do impressive leaps up on top of his cage and sit up there all pleased with himself. For about 5 seconds. Then he wants to come down but is too scared to jump all that height. I usually have to go over and half-squat making a platform with my lap at mid cage height so he can get down in two jumps.

Today after having to squat-bail him out four times in under an hour, I decided I was just going to sit at my desk, and he can stay up there on top of the cage until he gets really sick of it and learns not to jump up there so often anymore.

He pitifully paced around the edge for ages, looking down but not daring to jump. Eventually after a few minutes he braved the leap and made it down all on his own.

What did he do then? He ran over to me and gave me a HARD nip on my ankle! That little pisser!

I'm not sure what kind of cage he has but did want to warn you that it is possible for a bun to break a leg if it hops up and down from a wire or wire top cage. If that's what you have you may want to cover the top with wood, cardboard, etc.

Aren't they little stinkers?!

lol, hilarious. I'm sorry, but I read the last line and lost it, too funny. They certainly know what they want and when they want it. At least you got the message, haha.

I bet he's still adorable though ;)

Yeah, I'm just Merlin's giant slave lady. I got my punishment for not performing my duties! It won't happen again, your Majesty! :p

Pagal: Yup, the top of the cage is covered with a wood board to keep any stray sun rays out, should have mentioned that! Thankfully, too. It would have been a right heart attack for me if I suddenly discovered that one of the buns had started jumping up on a bare wiretop cage. :S

LOL. What are you expecting though? You kind of spoiled him :p

The other day, Mulder and Scully were on the 3rd level and Tank rabbit wanted to join his friends, didn't quite give enough power to the jump and fell all the way down to the floor, a little over 2 feet down. He's fine, but it was hard to watch. Dopey rabbits.

Oh man - back when Felix was around 9-10 weeks old, someone visiting our house took him from his cage and tried to hold him. Felix was fussing since he hated being held (and still only barely tolerates it now), jumped onto this guy's shoulder - who, by the way, is over six feet tall - and leapt off for his life!!

Thankfully one of my friends who was visiting acted super quickly and tried to catch him, sort of making a platform that he stabilised himself on, so he only ended up jumping around two feet onto the floor. He was fine, thank goodness!

:panic:
