Ohhh, poor poor Bunny Ken. He's had soo much on his plate, poor thing. Took him back to the vet yesterday and she was pleased with his progress. She told me she wasn't sure he was going to make it when I brought him in last time! I didn't know that! He's gained 6 ounces in two weeks, his eyes are all better but the two large areas on his rear are not healed yet. She said to continue with the oral meds for two more weeks and added a topical antibiotic to be applied twice daily. She said to swab the areas with warm water before applying the ointment so, last night I go to swab one of the areas and it's bleeding!! Its an area about the size of a quarter and there's absolutely no skin or fur on it! At least that's how it looks! I gave him some myloxicam for pain and an extra soft cloth on the floor of his pet caddy where he sleeps. I HATE having to pick him up to give him his meds; he's scared of me still (but not as much, I can tell) and it must be so painful to have his rear touched which I try not to do but I'm sure, at some point, it gets touched accidentally. I'll let you know what the vet says. IS THERE A SPECIAL WAY TO PICK UP RABBITS??? I know you aren't supposed to let their back ends hang because they can break their backs. Bunny Ken struggles so when I go to pick him up - I must be doing something wrong. He settles once I'm holding him but he's probably just waiting for me to take the first big bite of him! Thanks for reading and any advice.

Oh, poor little guy. Did the vet check his behind for fly strike?

I hope the vet can get him healthy again. It sounds like he's had a rough life up until now. I'm so glad he has you to look after him now.

When I pick up a bunny, I do in with a "scooping" motion. I place my right hand behind the front legs and then scoop up the rear with my left hand. It's important to fully support them so that they feel secure.

You know, Tony hates that so I use one hand to go under his tummy and as soon as I can I place him against me.... chest to chest.

Also, could it just be the dead skin/scabbing coming off of the little guy?

Poor Bunny Ken :(

I'm so sorry I'm just now replying to your loving posts. I wrote a whole long reply earlier and, when I tried adding an emoticon, poof! I lost it all and was too frustrated to write again. I just finished reading about Cheryl's ordeal and man!! I see what I'm in for now!!! You really DO get attached to these little furballs, don't you??!!!! As for Bunny Ken, the vet said what I saw is normal but to call if there is a LOT of bleeding. He said they want him to heal from the inside out, not the other way around which can cause a bad infection. He seems fine this evening and I think he just might be learning to trust me a little more. He actually ate a raspberry from my fingers and allowed me to pet him between his ears! Woo hoooo! Later, when I went to check on him, my glasses fell off my head and he tore into his pet caddy. Two steps forward, one back. Anyway, I'm going to try to spend some time with him now. What was that song?...Help me! I think I'm falling in love again... How DO you post an emoticon anyway? I'm so technologically illiterate!!!!

Off subject here, when typing a post, where ever you want the emot, just click on the one you want and it'll be in the spot where the cursor is:D(hopefully for you).

Let us know if something goes awry with that, and also, one suggestion? Could you post in paragraphs? Makes the reading a whole lot easier on the eyes;). Thanks!

I hope your bunny gets better. You may want to give some detail on the meds he's on too. Then if something isn't going right, we'll have that to read and come up with help or, questionsto askyour vet;).

okay...this is a test! :bunnybutt: Ahhh, I get it! My message was further down after I clicked. Cool!

I'll try to be a better student and use paragraphs! Guess I was being just being lazy. :bunny24

My bun is on baytril, trimethaprim (both oral), meloxycam (for pain) and carravet (topical antibiotic).
