The breeder I got Bruno from has a little baby bunny that was born blind in both eyes. I was just wondering what the cause might be for this? I'm just curious, and looking into eye problems in rabbits.. but I was wondering what are some causes of this?

The bunnies eye looks like the pupil is blue and hazed over. It looks similar to cataracts.. but I thought that was caused because of old age? I also read that E. cuniculi can lead to it.. but could that be the possibility for a young bunny?

Thanks! Just am curious because I haven't seen a bunny so young with eye problems in both eyes :(.

I haven't seen it in both eyes i did have one born that had an eye like that and i took i tto the vets who thought Cataracts however the baby grew out of it and its eye developed fine can see out of both eyes.

So sorry i dont know what it is but maybe there is a chance it will get better:)

There is a syndrome called "Nestbox Eye". It can affect both eyes in a baby. Usually an infection starts before the babies open their eyes. (poor hygeine in the nest, momma pees on them, they pee on each other, momma doesn't clean them or the nest.) It is usually pasturella, but E. cuniculi could be the cause too.

If it is discovered early enough, the infection canbe cured, but depending on how severe the infection and how long it festered, as to the severity of damage. If it isn't discovered, babies eye's open late, infection is already severe, damage is done, the surface of the eye is scarred and the bunny will be essentially blind. This is one of the most common causes of double eye blindness. I have seen where it was so severe, it resulted in the baby's death.

Cataracts and gestational glaucoma can also cause the same results. (Both of those could be genetic.)

Injury to the eye in the nestbox can cause damage to the cornea, again causing scarring and damage. Keep in mind that a rabbits eye is so similar to ours that for years they were used to test product safety. Any thing that affect our eyes will affect theirs, including allergies and irritants.

Rocky my moms guy was supposedly blind from birth. Can recall what it turned out to be but with meds his eyes cleared right up. Year later and he is a great demon bunny.
