Hi...
My parents found a beautiful, blue baby rabbit in their garden. Since they know nothing about rabbits, and none of the neighbors knew where he could have come from, they called me.
He must have been only about 4 weeks old, maybe.
The little guy did great last night and all day today, I fed him 10ml of goat milk last night and he ate hay and pellets today, he was drinking, pooping and peeing fine.
A few hours ago I noticed he had less energy, but i figured he was just tired from all the hopping around, so i put him away to is temporary setup.
Next time I went to check on him he was weak, had difficulty standing. just a few minutes later he started throwing his head back an moving his front legs frantically. he pushed with his back legs a few times too.
By the time I got a vet on the phone, about half and hour after I first notice he was really sick, he was just too far gone. He could no longer stand at all, his mouth was open when he was throwing his head back.
When we got in the car he started squealing in pain, and a couple streets later i felt him go limp. His heart was still beating but he was gone. He died soon after. I called the vet and he said he probably just died because of being so young... he wasn't a specialist, but he was the only onw I could reach at this hour.
I had never had a rabbit die in my hands, it was so sad,...
All I could do was keep him warm n my hands, I hope that made him feel better in his last minutes.
Do you guys have any idea what could have happened? Does it sound like poisoning? there may have been rat poison left over in my parents garden. Or maybe some type of injury? Starvation? although he was eating fine he was very thin. I can't stop thinking about him... Any input will be appreciated.
I have a video but it's too awful and sad...
