Since I am new to this I would like to get your advice since I am spending over $300 for these buns. The lady I am getting them from I trust very much, but seeing as how I am just getting started I can't tell you a show rabbit from a pet rabbit. So please be brutally honest and let me know if they are a good start stock and show stock. Thanks!

Black Buck *This one is important to know, cause almost half of what I am paying is going to this buck*

The pictures are too big to really get a good look at their type. Is there any way you can resize them?

Is this better? If not I can go smaller. :)

Much better! :D

What I'm seeing in all of them are long ears, especially on that black buck. They don't have enough depth to balance their ears out. They are nice and compact, look to have good HQ & topline, can't really see their shoulders because their ears are in the way...but they look okay.

Do you know how their fur texture & density is?
How old are these rabbits?

The only major thing I'm seeing is that they are quite long in the ear. ;)

No, I haven't even got to look at them except for pictures. We are 6 hours from each other. Which also makes it difficult. I can't remember their ages :confused2:How long can their ears be? Will this DQ them from showing? :pray:Should I pay 300 for this stock and almost half of that money on the black buck?:expressionless

Okay, after contacting the breeder I have found out more information. The black bucks ears are 2.25 inches and all the rabbits are between 8-10 weeks as of this date.

Mini Rex ears can't be over....3 1/2 inches, so I'm guessing he's just too small for them right now, and he'll grow in to them.

When were you wanting to get them? I'd wait and see how they mature, at least until 12 or 14 weeks of age, and see if they've grown into their ears anymore. ;)

What do their parents look like? Do they seem to be well balanced?

If you're starting out, I honestly don't know if I would PERSONALLY spend that much on 4 rabbits. Thats not giving you many options and are so young. Which you're not going to be able to even breed for a while. I just couldn't justify 150 for a rabbit that hasn't even been on the show table.

Blue is giving you a lot more detail in the rabbits then I possibly can, but with 300 I think you could spend money on rabbits already on the show table, and some that are great brood does.

Heck yes. I would never spend that much on rabbits that are too small to tell their type and have never been shown before. You should find some nice proven brood does and some young showy bucks to breed to the does. I think that would be money well spent. lol

ESPECIALLY since you don't personally know what to look for. Mini rexes are soo competitive, you can honestly buy a senior with a few legs for under 75 bucks.

Rear, top views and shots w/o a hand over the rabbit's heads would be helpful. MR coats are worth a lot of points, and we can't assess the texture/density from a photo. Have you seen the rabbits in person? What do you think of them?

No, I haven't seen them in person. She lives 6 hours away from me. I have decided not to get the tort buck or the b/tort doe. But I am still undecided on the black buck and the b/black doe.The breeder is going to show the black buck in November, which does make me feel a little better and a little hopeful.I assumed that the more money you pay the better the quality for show and brood. However, I don't want to get 'burned' either. I don't know what do to do. I am literally perplexed don't know what is the best outcome. :(
:faint::ponder::pullhair:
Thanks

I am surprised a breeder would be charging someone new that much...I personally wouldn't spend that much on youn, unproven stock but it's up to you. They certainly don't look pet quality, but I think you could be investing in a more reliable set, for a bit less.

I like the black buck and the broken black doe. That black buck has some major depth and HQ and the doe is a round little ball. You can tell their type better at 8 weeks old than when they are older until they mature. They go through awkward phases and some parts are growing faster than others.

I actually don't think the prices are that out of line. I paid $150 for my first mini-rex buck from a well know breeder 6 years ago and he was the foundation for most of my rabbits now. You are better off getting good stock in the beginning from a good breeder than feeding inferior rabbits and taking generations to get where you want to be. PM me and let me know who the breeder is and I will let you know if I have heard of them.
