Ant Infestation!

My bunny's hutch is infested with ants!!! We have ant traps, but ants are still EVERYWHERE!!! In her food, on her walls...help!!!!

Is this inside or outside? If the hutch is the kind with 4 legs, you could make a moat around each leg [that would take lifting each leg] filled with water or something that ants can't get through. That would stop new ants getting in & the traps should kill off the ones already there. That would probably damage the legs, though, so maybe some revisions would be necessary.

Follow them back to their source--where they are coming from underground and treat there. Elimination at their source is your only real cure. "Billy the exterminator" uses something made from the Chrysanthemum plant which takes care of insects but isn't toxic to mammals. Call a local exterminator and ask them what you could/should use.

Food quality Diatomaceous Earth around the hutch will help. Its fairly safe, but don't let the bunny breath it in or get a lot of it on her feet.

She lives alone in a hutch? Ever thought about getting her some company?

we are going through the same issue, our cage is inside and the ants are crawling all over the fruits and veggies we put for Thumper, any help on what to use so they won't keep on coming and that is safe for thumper?

Any veggies they get should be an amount they eat all at once. There shouldn't be time for ants to even find out that the greens are there. If greens are sitting in the enclosure for a length of time, that could explain the problem. Just reduce the amount offered at one time. You can always give them greens more than once per day, if needed, to be sure they get the amount they usually eat. (Fruit should be limited to no more than 1-2 tbsp per day -- so that small amount would likewise be eaten immediately.)
