Let me be clear: I do not see signs of Zoe's digestive tract being impacted from the large amount of plastic that she ingested about two weeks' ago. She is still passing stool, albeit odd stool (including smaller, broken-looking pieces at times).

I've not taken her to the vet so as to not stress her out unnecessarily (and, admittedly, to save my wallet). As long as she's passing stool, I feel better.

I'm wondering if anyone has given sub-Qs to a bun if/when a blockage was suspected? Part of me wonders if doing so could make the situation worse; but since the fluid is given under the skin and also goes elsewhere in the body, I'd think that it wouldn't necessarily add dangerous pressure to the digestive tract.

Thank you,

Jenk

If the poops are moist I wouldn't do the subq's; if the poops look dried out or sheisn't drinkingI would
you have the equipment at home so you could always do a sub q if needed later..

Confession: I broke down and dropped Zoe off at the vet's today.I couldn't get a client-vet appointment, but the vet agreed to examine Zoe betweenscheduled office visits.

It was the discussion about Simethicone/gassiness that sent me over the edge. My hubby is upset that I've made a vet visit, but it's pretty good that Zoe hasn't had a vet visit since Dec. '08 (a longtime period for both her and myself;)).

The vet thinks that Zoe will needx-rays;I told her to not do them if she doesn't feel any abnormality when she palpates the gut;Zoe's still passing a lot of fecals. (It'sjustoddly-shaped and a bit smelly.) Of course, she'll call me before running any tests; so time will tell....

Dec to almost May is a long time between visits....maybe she even needs it

you'll find out ...........
but most vets won't discourage frequent visits

The vet didn't feel any indication of blockage (ora potential one). She did feel a lot of fecal material; but since Zoe's passing stool, I won't overthink the issue. She also said that the gut sounds are normal.

She suggested that I give Zoe a probiotic for a week and watch for any changes (good or bad) in her stools. But there is noimmediate need for x-rays or even a fecal culture.Yay! :)

Now I just need to put up with my hubby saying, "I told you so," since he didn't think that a vet visit was necessary. Still, a $55 bill is a far cry from a $200-$300 bill. Gotta focus on the positives, right? ;)

And $55 can be worth paying for peace of mind, sometimes.

Compared to other one-time vet bills (and the grand-total spent to date), I'll willingly accept a $55 bill. ;)
