I recently brought in a doe that I was told was a Lionhead. I do know that she herself was bred to a Lionhead. However, after grooming I am really questioning her breed. She is really more like a Jersey Woolie. I have Lionheads, 3 single manes and 1 double. She is nothing like these!! Any help would be great appreciated. I attached her pic.

she's beautiful!!! my boys are both double maned. same dad, different moms!! clyde has the normal lionhead fur, but dustbunny's fur is totally different like yours!!!! I'm sure there is a variety of different fur types in lionheads, just like some breed of dogs are like that!

Your bunny is definitely a lionhead. Woolies have a big blocky head and very long wool that covers the entire back and falls to the floor(Very drape like). Your bun has a more angular head and pointed at the muzzle. Plus the presence of a mane is pretty obvious.

Wool can vary in density, texture, and amount of guard hairs. This is most commonly seen in the various angora breeds. The angoras all have a difference in their coat and it mainly depends on those three characteristics. Here's some info on the variance in angora coats:
http://nationalangorarabbitbreeders.com/angora-rabbit-breeds.htm

and here is the working lionhead standard. It explains what is acceptable for the lionhead coat: http://www.lionhead.us/aboutlionheads/standards.htm

Edit: I almost forgot there is something called a teddy lionhead. Heres a decription: A Teddy or Wooly is a Lionhead with a very active wool gene. Meaning that they are usually more wooly than a regular Lionhead. They are usually double maned and have wool over their whole body. They can also have wool on their face and ears. This is usually not shed even when they are Seniors. They are not showable but can add wool to your herd. For instance if you have a rabbit which doesn't have much of a mane but has a great body type - you can use your Teddy to create better maned babies with nice bodies.

Thank you so much! Her coat is just so different, but easy to maintain. I am fairly new to having our Lionheads and another friend of planted a little seed of doubt. She is a very good doe and even though she can't be shown (I didn't want to show her), she will be good for a brood doe. She came to me with her babies. They are gorgeous and will be weaned this week. I am still trying to decide which ones we will keep in our herd. My ultimate goal is to produce high quality Lionheads for both show and pet. My little rabbitry is in it's infancy and I have a lot more to learn, but I have the start of a nice herd.
Thank you for your feedback! I do sincerely appreciate it :)

good luck with her and her babies! They are super cute :)

Also even though right now you arent looking to show you could still take her or others to a show to get opinions just to make sure you're on the right track.
