I have yet to attempt to clip my bunny's nails, but I don't see that it would go over well. I might be willing to giveit a try... But she is a devil to handle and her back paws have blacknails. So before either one of us kills the other, what are otheroptions to cutting the nails myself? About how much does it usuallycost if a vet does it? Would you just make an appointment just for thator do you need a check-up too?

You might also consider checking to see ifthere's a bunny shelter near you that'll do it. We have onenear us that does grooming free, but by appointment. It's SOworth it. :)

See if you can find a breeder that will doit. Often they can show you what to do and show you how tocalm your rabbit down enough so it isn't a big deal for either therabbit or the person. Cutting nails isn't to bad once youboth get use to it.

Clipping nails really isn't that bad.It helps to have a second person- one clips while one holds the bunny-or you can learn to do it by yourself. If you're reallyuncomfortable you could find someone to demonstrate.

Oh, and you can usually see the quick in dark nails by shining a flashlight through.

Here's the Bunny 101 thread on nail clipping:

maherwoman, We don't really have a bunny shelterhere, as far as I know. We have a rabbit rescue, but the rabbits areall fostered at people's homes, not sitting in a shelter.

Honeysuckle Rabbitry, I don't know any breeders :(

I think I would be more scared to have a second person help. Theyprobably could not manage holding her, and I would be too frightenedfor someone else who is not experienced to clip! All I would let themdo is hold a flashlight :)

Do you know anyone else who has rabbits, or dogspossibley? Clipping a rabbits nails is pretty much the sameas clipping a dogs. It's not to bad. If you can'tfind anyone to help you then maybe wrap the bunny in a towel and clipone foot at a time. Good luck.

I'm not sure about in the States, but I knowhere in Toronto we have some pet stores that do it, in their small petssection. The cost is $5, and they'll show u how to do it and to handlethe bun....u might want to check there.....Also we have a pretty fiestygirl our self and wrapping her in a towel seems to help.....

Some of our stores sell you a yearly membership feeof $10, and you can bring any/allyour animals for unlimitedcuttings. The reason for that is to getyou into their store andhopefully you will buy things.

Rainbows! :)

i take :bunnydance:eek:scar to the vet to get his manicure.. he is a prince and gets royal treatment...

i know i would be able to do the front paws but the back ones...ugheven though i've been shown a couple of times it scares me alittle:shock:

Ella also goes to the vet, it usually two or three people to clip her nails.
:bunnybutt: <<< and this is her attitude afterwards, so better them then me.

I think I may check with the vet to see how muchit would cost and decide from there. But her nails are really startingto hurt >.<
