I was wondering if there are breeds that are known for causing allergies, are there some known to not cause allergies 99% of the time like poodles? I'm asking because Nate, my friend, is allergic. Another friend of mine is rehoming a doubled mane lion head rabbit, I brought it over to see if Nate's son was allergic, which he wasn't but wouldn't you know Nate is. They all loved the rabbit and want one but only if they can find one that Nate isn't that allergic to or not at all. So any suggestions?

P.S.

Thanks for reading my small novel, of a simple question.

I really don't think any one breed is better than another for allergies. Rexes are supposed to help, but they still have dander and shed like other breeds.

Most people who have allergies are not allergic to the rabbit, but are allergic to the hay, shavings or other stuff. If he is allergic to timothy hay, you can use brome, orchard grass or other grass hays. Avoid using shavings and try a paper litter in the litter box (fleece or towels can be good for the rest of the cage). It could be that the rabbit had some bedding or hay in it, that could have caused a reaction.

If you are sure it is the rabbit that is causing problems, it can be tricky to find a rabbit for him. Try a rex or mini rex to see if that works. You could also try going to a shelter or maybe a breeder to see some different rabbits and see if there is a reaction.

I'm pretty sure that it is the rabbit. It just had a bath before I took it,though it did lay in some hay I doubt it was enough to cause this severe reaction. his eyes were puffy like crazy. Thanks for the advice.

I'm personally allergic to almost all fur bearing animals... turtles, birds... cats, dogs, horses... you name it.

But! I'm very very very mildly allergic to Toby, who is a mini lop. Like Kate said, the real kicker is the hay.
