Oh god, this is so scary! Mouse and Chalk have been vaccinated, but Barney and Snowy haven't. I've not heard of any cases round here in Bristolspecifically but they're not going outside until it's been done now. I'm not taking any risks with them...

Our vet said when we got Mouse and Chalk vaccinated that they would be ok with only having it done once a year- should we be getting it done twice a year? :?

If there is a high risk in your area, I would definately get them done six monthly. Even if there is a slight risk, I think it would still be worthwhile - I have Pernod and Shadow done every six months.

Thanks Jan! We got them done in November last, so I'll talk to our vet when we take Barney and Snowy in about getting it done in May next. It's such little cost at £15 a vaccination that it just doesn't seem worth it to take the risk- better safe than sorry...

I have read some on the how and why this horrible desiease was created, but I am not aware of all the areas affected by it. It was not something I had heard of before and am wondering if there are any cases of it here in the US?
Anyone know?

There have been a few cases of myxi on the West Coast of the US, but not very many at all. It is natural in some of the wild rabbits over there. The rest of the country- and continent- is myxi-free. No worries for you! And we don't have the vaccine anyway- it's not allowed. It would make it harder for authorities to track a real outbreak by making vaccinated animals test as false positive.
